How do you legally trade/manage other peoples money?

Europe may have different rules. But in US, if you have very limited number of clients and they are small accounts, you probably do not need license. But you better look at the state requirements. The IB Friend and Family account structure is a very good way to do it. It is very clean...

Do you have to be registered to manage other people's money?

This thread is old, but still interesting. Some of the comments just do not look right. Some brokers like IB and Schwabs offer a combined stock/futures account. You can trade both and FX, crypto etc. So you can't distinguish between stock and futures accounts. You can call yourself whatever...

What are the Average AUM of Pro Traders?

If you look at the money managers posted at IB, they range from $1MM+ to about $50MM. Most are under $10MM. So I believe the $100MM funds are considered large. I'm thinking more on the individual side. Not money management business.

What are the Average AUM of Pro Traders?

Just wonder if there is any data about the average size of the AUMs of some of the reported data? I know the range can be really wide and some of the data are not very reliable. But just want to get some ideas. I know there are tons of prop traders, some trade on their own and some trade with...

Do day trading firms still exist?

Most new traders failed because they are under capitalized. $10k is possible. But maybe better trading some small equity futures. There are micro contracts. If you have an edge, you can generate good returns quickly. And you are not subject to PDT rule.

Complete nonsense. Just can't get over. Bad, bad....

    Crude Oil 2021-Q4

CL market is deja vu again. Overnight buying on OPEC, China export and travel opening. Near term market fundamentals are still bearish. We probably have another crude inventory build. The Goldman monkey prediction of nat gas to crude oil is not happening. A lot people still stay home...

Do futures trading and commodity trading distort the spot price in a negative way?

There is enough arguments on energy de-regulation. No points to continue. But the fact is that, futures market clearly distort the real physical markets. All the profit margins from nat gas fracking and power generations go to the hedge funds or private investors. Those profit should stay...

Do futures trading and commodity trading distort the spot price in a negative way?

This is completely not true. I worked for both power and nat gas desks. I know how we do the power dispatch and nat gas nomination. All for profit.... For integrated utilities, we did not care much about profit.

Do futures trading and commodity trading distort the spot price in a negative way?

I'd like to LOL about your statement. Hedgers who move the market? They are the market takers. After they put on the hedges, they are done. They rarely unwind the positions. Take a look at the CFTC COT reports. You can see who are trading those futures contracts. Swap dealers and large...

Do futures trading and commodity trading distort the spot price in a negative way?

Not really at all. In a regulated energy market, we would not see $6 nat gas price. Or $85 crude oil price. It is a fallacy to state that de-regulated energy markets are cheaper than regulated. All utilities are investor owned. The rates are regulated by the PUCs. Local utilities are still...

Do futures trading and commodity trading distort the spot price in a negative way?

You get this right this time. As one of the largest public utility, we used to own lignite mines, nat gas pipelines, many GW of power gen and serve a significant portion of the state's gas and electricity supplies. All the end users were very happy. Never any price spikes like what we are...

    Prop Trading Business Model

Most of the large cap stocks are fairly stable during the day. Most time one directional. So high leverage is fine. But overnight can be challenging, particularly for the folks who play earning games. Futures markets are totally different stories. Look at CL, NG etc. CL can have an...

    Intel as a longterm investment

In this market, investors do not want to wait for long-term. If company management can't deliver what they promised, stock goes to the dump. Look at Snap.... Robinhood.

Do futures trading and commodity trading distort the spot price in a negative way?

Also, I never recall ERCOT price was ever to the $500 or $1,000 before ERCOT started operating in early 2000s. When the market opened open and became unregulated, all the speculators came in and control the market.... Distortion? certainly.

Do futures trading and commodity trading distort the spot price in a negative way?

Not true at all. In NG market, we have a lot of nat gas storage. We can even draw nat gas line pack if we need to. We could run several BCF out of the pipe without any structural risk. Same with oil market. There are storage tanks at all port terminals. We also have a lot of reserves...

Do futures trading and commodity trading distort the spot price in a negative way?

I see whatever you said here is BS. Who knows about your claims? The physical commodities are not even regulated. You can't even back up yourself....
