There is no such thing as "zero reason". If you bought Lehman yesterday at the close, you'd be up 20% this morning. The stock may very well be headed to zero, but so is every stock, given enough time.

It's actually the other way around if you trade futures. Stating your results in percentages would be misleading, because the margin requirements are different from one broker to another. For example, on a given day, your gain was 5 ES points trading 1 contract. This translates into $250 profit...

Not a big deal. Most ET-ers can make that much in one year, trading just 1 ES contract.

SPY is not a future contract, and no, most people who trade futures do not know what you meant. You may argue that it's "semantics", but then again, I can make an argument that pork bellies represent metal futures, as they contain certain amount of mercury, lead, iron, and zinc.

Margin calls don't "freeze" or "blow up" the account. They simply mean that your open positions are too large compared to account size. So the "people" you are referring simply reduce their positions and continue trading. Not that it's a good thing, but it's not the end of the world, either.

The ball gets two "correct" credits for the "flat" calls on a day which had an almost 200 point range?! With this type of determination, I can call "flat market" every day and I'll be right 90% of the time!
