    Option liquidity?

Thanks again, very helpful. In terms of rolling over... this is a purely voluntary thing, not anything exchange-mandated, correct? People are just getting out of the July into the September future contract? I believe the July futures don't expire until mid July... why would people start...

    Option liquidity?

It is right now 9:45 AM PST, so 11:45 CST. I'm still not seeing any ask/bid quotes for ZO (oat) options for Jul 09. Is this normal? What am I missing?

I want a new Mirus rep.. can I just ask?

That's an option I wanted to learn more about. I don't even know why Mirus is in the picture, or what they bring to the table. Can you explain to me the distinction, and/or point me to a thread that talks about it? I opened my initial account with RCG without *any* assistance from Mirus...

IQFeed just blew up on me

Let me just ping this thread again. After several other encounters, I just wanted to say I'm thoroughly impressed with IQFeed customer support. Once I found the right person to talk to, they've been incredibly helpful on various issues. Very solid business, and I trust them thoroughly at...

I want a new Mirus rep.. can I just ask?

I'm not going to name names. I'd rather not burn bridges. But basically: - if I have a real issue with my account, then you should look into it and get back to me proactively. (Any "real issue" should not require 4 emails, 3 unanswered phone calls over 2 days before you start looking...

I want a new Mirus rep.. can I just ask?

I don't expect much from my brokers. Just basic competence, availability, and great technology. I had heard only great things from Mirus, so I setup an account with them this week (clearing thru RCG). Everyone else raves about Mirus' service, but frankly, my rep sucks. Hard to get hold...

What do you think of this trade.

Thank you for the clear example. Exactly. Key point: hedged every day, leads to non-linear final results.

Why are commodity options so "rich"?

Where would I get historical IV values for the commodities? I use ivolatility for equities, but I don't believe they have similar numbers for commodities.

    Option liquidity?

traderTX, Thanks for that info. How do I distinguish between going to the pit and/or electronically for the options? I can go at this one of two ways... either via IB, or RTrader through Zen-Fire. Both have built in option books, and I'm not clear how to distinguish pit and/or otherwise.

Why are commodity options so "rich"?

Yep, I can easily see that ZC volatility goes much higher from Sept through December... HV is 20%+, peaking at ~45% after October (looking back 30 days on November 1st). ZW volatility peaks 2-4 weeks later, same general range. It also shot up to almost 100% in March of '08? What happened...

    Option liquidity?

Hi, I'm a self-admitted newb, so bear with me. It's just after the start of the 18:00 PM session right now. I'm looking at the ATM options for front-month futures... But for most of these options, I'm not seeing anything on the ask/bid. ZCN9 is currently showing ask/bids at 425...

    Significance of "preopen"?

Hi there, Can someone speak to me about the "significance" of preopen ask/bid prices? The concept is a little foreign to me. Nothing is actually being transacted, right? These ask/bids (currently 17:45 CST) are being advertised just for the heck of it? Are these ask/bids actually...

What do you think of this trade.

dagnyt, You're pretty harsh in your response to my post, when you don't seem to have any idea what I said, or what my belief is. I also believe Direxion is doing their job correctly.

What do you think of this trade.

Two sample points does not a trend make. FAS and FAZ try to duplicate *daily* performance, which to me means they re-adjust for proper delta every day... and looking at longer-term results just not relevant. Considering the huge leaps (up/down) we've had with the financials over the last 6...

Why are commodity options so "rich"?

Thanks... so IV might be higher right now because we're in the midst of the growing season, while there was little HV earlier this year. I'll pick up some standard texts so I can better understand the seasonal tendencies. So *this* is why there are financial instruments out there based on...

Why are commodity options so "rich"?

Hi, This isn't a rhetorical question, and I have no problems admitting I'm a complete newbie when it comes to commodity options. I'm just genuinely surprised at what seems like relatively high rates of implied volatility inside commodity options. ZM (Soybean meal), ZS (Soybean), ZC...

    GM June 1 Calls

Not in this brave new world... Chrysler went into bankruptcy at the beginning of this month, and might possibly be "out" in the next few days. As to why this might be relevant... I can't figure out *what* drives GM stock value until the "good" GM is unveiled and we have some assets + earnings...

    GM June 1 Calls

Is it already known that GM will exit bankruptcy before option expiration on June 19th...? Just curious how that plays into it.

What do you think of this trade.

I don't understand the argument that FAS and FAZ will actually go to zero. It's not like FAS/FAZ point to a specific set of options. These guys are updated and re-hedged every day. I seriously doubt there's an on-going "decay factor" that can be counted on.
