huge inflation without wage increases in vietnam - How?

I would argue against that. Core CPI used to be a more accurate measure of underlying, controllable inflation when energy and food prices were relatively stable but fluctuated up and down on a month over month basis. In this case core CPI could be more useful (kind of like stripping out 1-time...

Atheists break into church and steal art supplies from Christian children.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but nowhere in that article does it state the thieves were atheists. Did I miss it? Or is this just another thread where peil stereotypes all atheists and pretends like religious folk can do no wrong?

huge inflation without wage increases in vietnam - How?

Both CPI and Core CPI are published every month...if you don't like Core CPI because it excludes food and energy, then do your analysis on CPI. Problem solved.

http://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/Safe-Canadian-debt-market-reuters-2937498865.html "Foreigners -- mainly Americans but also increasingly British and Asian investors -- more than doubled their investment in Canadian bonds in May from April, Statistics Canada said on Monday. This helped...

Canada's prosperity in the 90's through cutting government spending.

Your first paragraph is irrelevant to the discussion. Your second paragraph seems to suggest that someone stated Keynesianism can't work. I don't recall saying that, or anyone else. The problem is that nobody applies proper Keynes theory in practice. Save during good times, spend during...

Canada's prosperity in the 90's through cutting government spending.

Of course not, but it is the main culprit. Think of a business that is losing money every month (USA). You can cut spending, raise revenues, or both. Raising revenues are not easy, as customers will only tolerate so much of a price hike before they stop buying. The first thing a money...

Canada's prosperity in the 90's through cutting government spending.

Of course the CAD depreciated vs. USD in 90's. That's when we were in massive debt. At the end of the 90's is when Canada started to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Once we brought our debt down to a manageable level, that's when you start to see the currency appreciation.

Canada's prosperity in the 90's through cutting government spending.

Canada got out of its debt mess in the 90's by slashing spending and raising taxes. You can only raise taxes so much, however, so the main part of the equation is certainly the spending. A commonly held belief is that government wastes 1/3 of every dollar it gets its hands on. I don't...

    Rating Agencies

Just do your own analysis and make the call for yourself and ignore ratings agencies. Honestly, who among us didn't know Italy and Portugal were in trouble before the downgrades? If the USA gets downgraded, who didn't know the USA was in a boat load of debt trouble?

Why is ET better than Government?

I often read financial discussions on this message board and then a day or two read an article on the same topic in the MSM. Occasionally I think ET is a leading indicator.

It doesn't. But it's easier to be brave and fight when you know the alternative is death.
