VIX and TICK - how to use and for what ?

Nihab, What type of patterns are you looking for on the TICK chart? I notice you are plotting what looks like Bollinger Bands and moving averages on it. How do you interpret these in relation to the ES? Share the wisdom my friend! Cheer, kp

VIX and TICK - how to use and for what ?

I maintain that TICK being +- 1000 in a choppy market is an oxymoron. Show me a TICK reading +- 1000 and I'll show you a market that is on the move! Post a chart of the mkt with a TICK of +-1000 while still remaining choppy. We'd all like to see it and learn. Cheer, kp

    Wanted: Wade Cook

Don't thank Wade Cook for your good fortunes, but the idiots who puffed the market full of hot air. During the '90s everybody was a genius. I wonder how the covered call strategy fared the past two years... kp

VIX and TICK - how to use and for what ?

The saying I learned is: VIX is high, time to buy. VIX is low, time to go. This is a contrarian method of using it, but has been incredibly accurate. Compare the VIX and the S&P over the last five years. Almost every time the VIX hit 40+ there was an increase in the S&P of at least 60...

Futures-Trader, a Simulator for papertrading your IB account

I'd love to help with that, but that kind of stuff is completely out of my league! I hope someone will see the need for it, though. Simulators are vital. You have to have a trigger to pull, and a fill. Thank you. kp

    Will war actually be bullish?

I believe there is, unfortunately, alot of hot air in the markets. The bubble of the '90s was so big that even now we're not down to a 'normal' P/E ratio on the overall markets. Back in 1991, the markets had a much lower P/E and had plenty of room to run. It's different now. I think the war...

Futures-Trader, a Simulator for papertrading your IB account

Why don't you write something that would work on several data feeds: IB ESignal Real Tick Trade Station I would pay good money for a simulator that worked on my data feed, (TradeStation) and gave me fills based on the Bid/Ask size. Now I use PFG's simulator and pay them $30 a month...

    Active Trader Magazine

I received it free for awhile with "Compliments of MetaStock" on every issue. When that ran out, I signed up for a subscription. It won't make me rich, but I enjoy the trader profiles, news and the broad array of TA it covers. Plus, I like supporting a quality magazine for this industry. kp

    Active Trader Magazine

Something like this: 1. Go long on the open if yesterday's close is higher than the highest high of the lookback period. 2. Exit by reversing the position. I haven't read the whole thing, but from the above rules I would say it's an end of day strategy. The reference chart is Oats, and it...

    Whoa Baby! What happened?

If it was one bad trader, it's not CME's fault. If it was just market conditions, it's not CME's fault. (See how nice they are by canceling all those 'bad' trades.) WHATEVER it was it DEFINITELY wasn't caused by their technology. And, even if it was, it still would be their fault! "Thee...

    Whoa Baby! What happened?

However, wouldn't all those free money guys be upset if their trades were busted, and they were left hanging long or short. If there really was some sort of glitch, and not real volume driving it up then the arbs wouldn't have made any difference. Wasn't the pit open? kp
