SEC needs to CRACK DOWN on "Prop" firms

For profit tech school -- that's a great analogy. I gotta remember that one ;)

I'm sick and tired of work! :)

No offense intended whatsoever, but you seem to have a pretty cynical philosophy about trading, which WILL impact your bottom line. It almost seems as if you are trying to convince yourself to not pursue it.

SEC needs to CRACK DOWN on "Prop" firms

Heh. I should introduce you to the management at the last place I was at after I foolishly got caught up with an introducing broker type. A former trader and his highschool friend who was smart but generally socially incompetent and manipulative. There's a reason why these types of firms...

SEC needs to CRACK DOWN on "Prop" firms

I think those are very insightful points that should be better known by people in this biz. It seems to me that the real sweet spot in prop is in either having hardcore software and analytics with cheap commissions for high-vol groups that have been around the block already, or finding...

What is needed to set up a pro firm?

LOL. All figured out huh? Let us know how you'll keep a programmer who could make $250 a day trading by paying him $250 a month.

SEC needs to CRACK DOWN on "Prop" firms

This is a pretty interesting point, which I don't see mentioned often. I have seen several outfits though, usually run by former Worldco guys, pop up and disappear. Most of the time they clear through the standard big few prop firms but their claimed added value is to get cheaper commissions...

    Hold Rings NYSE Bell

Heh, I don't know about you but it's not that hard to work level 2 a bit to get short naturally, unless you're pounding on every dime drop. To take that away and charge me $25 or whatever it is every time is not a positive trade off in my opinion. The point is, when you charge cheap rates but...

    Hold Rings NYSE Bell

Yeah, you're very right about the support aspect at Genesis. And their charts are crap, but most everyone I know at any firm uses 3rd party charting software anyway.

SEC needs to CRACK DOWN on "Prop" firms

That right there alone captures the heart of the issue.

Oh no, I agree fully with that.

Do You Have Balls? Goldman Sachs Is Breaking Down

    <i>That</i> is interesting info.

SEC needs to CRACK DOWN on "Prop" firms

Who says you need overnight leverage? With either a track record or three months relationship time you can get 1 mil (and you don't even need close to that much to make a nice living). That makes "prop" worth it, as long as you're not hitched up with any of the innumerable scumbag firms out there.

    Hold Rings NYSE Bell

I imagine they're competitive with the dicier firms, but Hold couldn't ever compare to Genesis on software and I'd bet rates as well. I think you have to pay $30 per 1000 to short 50% of the stocks on NYSE, every time, no ifs ands or buts.

Is the coming Social Security/Medicare crisis REALLY that worrisome?

And we are exactly 47.2 years away from changing the weather at will, traveling backwards through time, cloning ourselves through quantum superposition, breathing underwater, synthesizing entire galactic systems from genetically-engineered goat livers, and resurrecting Nixon.

Which stocks would you hold for 30 years?

I don't know about you guys, but my eye is on <b>HLVC</B> 2036, Fortune 500 <i>all the way baby</i>.

    Any stocks like XOM?

I'm a huge fan of FCX, PD, KBH, ACI, although I agree on most of the rest. Especially CLF. I'd like to punch that specialist in the face.

    Pope pisses off Muslims

<b>"There is no such thing as America running around installing governments most people don’t want." </b> <b>"Facts are facts: plenty of Iranians liked the Shah. Without that support, we could influence nothing."</b> Wrong. What, there's no such thing as an illegitimate or...

    Pope pisses off Muslims

Wow, you have some colorful opinions. I can tell this won't go too far, but I just want to focus on this one issue. In your opinion the 1979 overthrow of the "Shaw" was not a popular nationalist reaction against a brutal dictator. Grassroots support for the movement had no basis in a...

    Pope pisses off Muslims

Quote from Sam123: Populations are galvanized when they have a newfound sense of hope and confidence that gins up their ethnic/religious/national pride. </b> I agree with this also. I am not making an either/or argument. <b>The Mullahs in Iran are popular because Iran is enjoying a...
