    NYSE hybrid update

Well said. I honestly am not seeing volatility changes. Those who scalp for dimes might have more functionality problems with market orders and limit price improvement, but I usually try to catch longer intraday moves so order handling isn't as crucial to my bottom line. As long as the...

    Best stocks for daytrading

Honestly, I don't think it's helpful to try to find out what people day trade unless you believe their style is similar to yours. I trade ACI, NCX, MVK, TIE, CCJ, but I would never suggest trying to dive into those stocks until you have a sense of how the predominant movers influence the stock...

A thank you to the moderators and Baron

Just wanted to drop a note and say thanks. I have been reading ET for 3 years now without contributing. However, there have been a handful of people I always read when I see their comments, who really seem to know what they're talking about when it comes to the markets. FT71, Mark, lescor...

    Prop firms in California

I don't see anything wrong with Don posting. I've appreciated his insight when he occasionally divulges his experineces on the floor. I think any experienced trader will avoid high rates simply by surfing the market. If they need training, assuming it is disciplined, insightful, and...

Bar Charts, Candlestick Charts, Other, or Tape Reading?

That's a good point, I never looked at it that way. As I primarily day trade, I focus more on extremes, pierces, etc. than on candlestick patterns, as they seems less reliable in the short term. The only patterns I keep an eye out for are hammers, dojis, spinning tops, shooting stars on higher...

Bar Charts, Candlestick Charts, Other, or Tape Reading?

You'll find a lot of people responding that they read the tape and charts. The only problem I have with candles is the lesser visual emphasis on the highs and lows. The eye is drawn too much to the open and close. But still, more elegant data.

Simple advice for those starting prop

Saw this comment by SDLT13 in a great thread started by limitdown. Just wanted to draw attention to it and throw it out there, as it's good, consolidated advice. Carry on with the afternoon doldrums :) : I have been a prop trader since 99. I ran a group of 25 traders a year into the...

    Anyone trade the brokers?

2000-5000 shares on GS? Whew, that's some aggressive stuff. You must have an iron stomach to want to try that. :D

POLL - Futures: How do you determine the trend?

I agree trends are apparent after the fact but if you have a strong stock that has formed a solid breakout pattern, chances are higher that a trend will be established after the break. When I trend a stock, I don't enter on the trend -- I am in on the breakout. I plan my longer term exits...

POLL - Futures: How do you determine the trend?

Dogballoon here. ADX is a good way, although I prefer to find the most recent breakout and then draw a trend line from the lows.
