50% of capital gains are taxed in Canada, but if you are trading futures for income it is treated differently. I would imagine it would be treated as normal income on your tax return.

The leap from retail to 'pro firm' would be very difficult, unless you have an amazing 3-5 year track record.

The only two I know of are Swifttrade and Don Bright's prop firm in Langley, B.C. I'm sure there are more out east, but I don't know of them.
