Why is it that when you try to make one-day charts of certain indices (BKX for example), it always comes out as a 2-day chart? Sometimes this resolves itself towards the middle of the day, but today the problem continued throughout the session. Can those that should know fix this?

Completely agreed, I'd much rather position or spread trade off of a free, delayed 60min chart (say from futuresource.com) than to try to scalp for 5 ticks using a 1min real-time chart.

From my own experience, I tend to make the best trades after I've decided to hunker down, bet small, and take it a little at a time. It's once the successes start getting to your head, and you start thinking you can trade much bigger, or without stops in place, etc -- that's where trouble...

I never thought of realtick as a competitor to IB -- to me they are quite complementary, and I prefer having order entry and data feed segregated. I might be missing something but it doesn't seem like IB has any charting or historical studies capability to speak of.

The one price both buyer and seller agree upon = a TRADE. The buyers and sellers at the same price cancel each other out, leaving a spread between the next highest bidder and the next lowest seller. The spread is inherent to any market; how wide this spread should be is another story.

That's exactly how it works for me too: once you decide to not honor your stop, well hell, might as well double, triple down, etc -- and there goes 2 week's worth of gains wiped out in one trade. Guarding against that 5%, that's the key to longevity in this business, IMO.

A few days ago, I started having problems on updating my Telechart2000 data. The download gets up to around 1-2% done, then freezes. Otherwise, my internet working fine (downloads, browsing, streaming quotes etc). I've called the company and my isp, and neither can figure out the problem...

I think ultimately it depends on the style of the trader and whether larger position sizes will have a big impact on slippage. If you're a scalper that likes to take .50 on stocks like KLAC and QLGC or 2 pts on NQ's, then it's probably in your best interest to sweep out most of your gains after...
