IBKR portfolio value broken 6am GMT

Extreme margin increase is a worrisome problem for IBKR but not for clients. What we fear is a sudden extreme margin decrease that leads to auto-liquidation. It really does seem margin is impacted. That is scary.

IBKR portfolio value broken 6am GMT

If it's only a display bug, auto liquidation should not happen. My biggest worry as a client who uses margin is that this bug can actually cause auto liquidation to happen. I hope folks on this forum can share their experience so that all of us here are aware of the risks of using IB platform.

IBKR portfolio value broken 6am GMT

This is serious. If the bug affected margin, it could lead to auto-liquidation of positions by error. Clients may have a case to sue if the forced liquidation is caused by a bug. If anyone is hit by faulty auto-liquidation due to the bug, please keep us updated. It is important as clients to...

Seems like many IBKR clients got mini heart-attacks today. See this reddit thread.

Trend-following CTAs performing poorly in 2017 and 2018. Switch to mean reversion?

Surprising results. I would expect one to go zig while the other go zag. I think you're not alone in facing declining performance. There have been several reports about CTAs facing declining performance since the 2008 financial crisis. I wonder what has changed in the market.

Trend-following CTAs performing poorly in 2017 and 2018. Switch to mean reversion?

You mentioned you had both trend following and mean reversion strategies. Both were losers in 2016 and 2017? I would expect mean reversion to be inversely correlated with trend-following since they sound like polar opposites in strategy. I am surprised both were losers for 2 consecutive years.

Trend-following CTAs performing poorly in 2017 and 2018. Switch to mean reversion?

Thanks. You provide a good explanation for the poor performance in Feb2008. However, given the wonderful performance of stock indices in 2017, why did trend-following CTAs perform poorly in 2017?

Trend-following CTAs performing poorly in 2017 and 2018. Switch to mean reversion?

So, I guess it's due to over-crowding in trend-following strategies and too much money going into trend-following CTA funds. I'm surprised investors are pouring money into a strategy that has been performing poorly in recent years. Even the best such as John Henry has given up trend trading.

Trend-following CTAs performing poorly in 2017 and 2018. Switch to mean reversion?

This article shows the poor performance of many of the hedge funds that suffered in Feb2018 mini-crash. https://www.zerohedge.com/news/2018-02-26/jpmorgan-warns-exitinction-level-event-ctas-after-worst-month-record

Trend-following CTAs performing poorly in 2017 and 2018. Switch to mean reversion?

According to this article, trend-chasing quant funds were 2017's biggest losers, at least up to time of publication. One of the reasons given was low volatility and that trend followers tend to do well during periods of high volatility...

Citadel Cuts 45 People as Gutting of Aptigon Stock Unit Deepens

It seems like humans are being treated like stocks here. Cut your losses quick. I feel humans should be given more chance and treated with more respect than stocks. It takes time for humans to show their true performance. Furthermore, there is always this principle "Do not do unto others what...

Is a Bloomberg/Reuters terminal still worth it now that social medias exist?

Are Reuters Eikon terminal and Bloomberg terminal a piece of software that can run on Windows 10 PC? Is there separate hardware for these terminals?

Why are there flash crashes in the stock market but no flash rallies?

You are right. I have never traded individual commodities or bought a single commodity future before. I do hear of stories about traders being stuck limit up for several days and cannot get out. Horrifying even to imagine. I'm glad stocks do not have this limit up feature. I do not want to lose...

Why are there flash crashes in the stock market but no flash rallies?

Yes, that is correct. I was referring to the broad stock market and more specifically, stock market index futures such as E-mini S&P500 and Nasdaq100. I believe there are flash rallies in individual stocks as some stocks are heavily shorted. Many replies here have focused on the fear factor of...

Why are there flash crashes in the stock market but no flash rallies?

Flash crash happened in 2010, 1987. As far as I know, there has been no flash rallies in stock market history. I wonder why this is so. Anyone has insights why there have been no flash rallies so far like the flash crashes that we have seen in 2010 and 1987?

Tough times for Mr Einhorn. Hope he recovers soon.

Haha. Thanks for your compliment. I don't think I am dumb but I am pretty sure Mr Einhorn is smarter. Best of luck to him going forward.

Tough times for Mr Einhorn. Hope he recovers soon.

This explains why dumber retail investors like me can outperform smarter investors like Mr Einhorn. I handle far smaller sum of money without the pressure of disappointing outside investors. I actually feel more pressure handling other people's money than my own. The pain is lesser when losing...

Thread title is "BW drops 16% around 16:10, but earnings are not released until 16:40" Reads like market moved before news was released.

Tough times for Mr Einhorn. Hope he recovers soon.

Mr Einhorn is definitely a very smart person. I have seen him in action on Youtube. I hope he recovers soon. When bad luck strikes, even less smart people like me can outperform smart people like him. I am down quite badly so far in 2018. The worst since 2012. Einhorn's market-neutral...
