We have all been saved at long last

This brings to mind that old movie, John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness. Midway thru the movie one of the characters is posessed and starts typing on a computer. After a page of "I live..." they type the following: "You will not be saved by the Holy Ghost. You will not be saved by the...

If You were Paulson/Bernanke, what would You do?

Suggest you link to: http://globaleconomicanalysis.blogspot.com/ and then consider supporting Roubini's HOME proposal http://www.rgemonitor.com/blog/roubini/ for the simple reason that he's been ahead of this thing for a long time and has had the longest to consider how to right it...

    is the recession orchestrated

Agree with most of you regarding manipulation... BUT - something happened out of plan. Suspect it was Putin's invasion of Georgia. This caused a policy decision to deflate oil even if it would implode finance entities (or decision wasn't thought through). And this caused the mess...

    CEO Compensation Limits

OK. This is NOT capitalist, but socialist. Nevertheless I do feel it strongly. I believe that too much income disparity is bad for american society. Its ok to be rich - there just shouldn't be a few rich and everyone else poor. I am in favor of keeping the GINI index from rising (a...

Mechanics of a major dollar collapse

James Turk wrote a useful book on this subject. Koliotkoff's Coming Generational Storm also was useful with good advice for mom/pop types who may not have access to futures/fx markets. Most of this information is freely available on the net. Realize that you always have a net long USD...

What does Buffett see in Goldman Sachs bank?

Concur. Curiouser & Curiouser. Waiting for the first bloke to jump ship to somewhere else. Where is James Cayne these days, anyway? I hear paraguay is nice this time of year.

    CNBC BUFFETT buying into Goldman

Really. You didn't think that whole bill and melinda gates foundation thing was for anything but show, did you? Here is his raison d'etre. Circle wagons and hope for the best boys. This thing got way out of control. Financial war - 4th Gen Warfare - but nobody really knew what they...

T-Bills... 0.15% Yield... Get Some While You Can!

Long bond yields actually paradoxically rose as the depression went on by the way. And yes, for my retirement acct, I paid 0.04 yield on a 90 day and was HAPPY to do it at the time. Its not about return on capital at this point - its about preservation.

Lets stop talking about bailouts and start talking about....Interest rates!!!

They won't increase rates on the short end. Competitive currency devaluation is planned. Negative real interest rates are part of the design. Only when currency reaches an appropriate target will rates be hiked sky high to reverse the currency decline. WE are the carry trade.

The Only Bailout Thread I'll Start

Bailout - necessary evil. Immunity from legal process - unnecessary. That's what most people are objecting to.

If you don't like the Bailout, then do something

More like a mad panic into any sort of hard asset.

Will the disappearance of investment banks affect the trading permanently ?

    100% correct. End of equities.

Goldman Sachs & Morgan Stanley Can NO LONGER TRADE COMMODITIES

I can't believe that GS would give up commodities. LB is a commodity man. More info necessary. Anyone know anyone over at J aron?

They just banned short selling in US

All I can say is - wow. Went cross-country over 3 time zones, woke up late this morning - its like the world is a different place. Obviously, things are much worse than we all thought. And that's potentially for us permabears. Pelosi had a look on her face like the angel of death at the...

charlie strikes again for the 3 pm rally

We have been here before. 1931. National Credit Corporation. So Paulson gets his super-SIV. what difference does it make? Perhaps from a legal/accounting angle. But I doubt it. There is no real positive news here. The inevitable forestalled after options expiration.

The bottom-picking thread (smelly fingers optional)

Cutten - I'm somewhat in agreement with you as I think we are going to see panic/capitulation soon as IRA's and 401k's get noticed and possibly raided by their owners for panic sales/liquidations. That may take a few days to occur, so we are certainly not out of the woods for a while yet...

can someone tell me what can i do with my economics degree

Credentials do not equal Capability. You're on your own now. But going into debt for a second worthless degree isn't going to help either. There comes a time when the aegis of the gods is removed from the hero and the hero must stand on their own, you know?

The more things change, the more things stay the same.

So, after the last two day's love fest and AIG's near-insolvency, how much do you want to bet that mom and pop retiree are going to jump on the computer or call up their fund company, take a look at how their retirement accounts (mostly invested in equities, thanks) have taken a pounding, and go...
