    Uptick rule

.... also, I hate volatility unlike some of you, we all trade different strategies, I'm sure some of you are killing it out there with this volatility. :)

    Uptick rule

So it was just merely a coincidence that when the uptick rule was abolished the VIX began to uptick (pun intended)

    Uptick rule

It has absolutely no effect on the economy but it definitely has a profound effect on the market. I never said the uptick rule has led to the downturn in the market, I said it added to the volatility. Speaking of the economy, do you feel the fed is acting based on the economy, or the market... I...

    Uptick rule

Excuse my naivety but what was the reason for the uptick rule being removed? It's pretty clear the elimination of the uptick rule has contributed significantly to the upswing in volatility, would it not make more sense to re-instate the uptick rule instead of taking the funds rate to 0%?

Martin Armstrong day is upon us

I suppose it could be the gold market but from what I've seen it's always surrounded the SPY's.

    Trading in Israel

Are the internet connections really that bad there? I've thought of trading in Israel many times, never have done it though. The US market hours in Israel would really be perfect if you're young.. trade up til' dinner then hit the tel aviv dock's after hours.

    Tax question

Well first of all, I trade full-time so it'd be taxed as income -- my question is why am I able to defer my taxes in my mutual funds (Not IRA) and how could I do that with my trading account.... I'm sure there is a way.

    Tax question

Are traders only taxed on money that is withdrawn from the account or on all profits that are made? If the tax is charged to all profits made in the account, are there any ways to compound the profits like in a mutual fund but in your own trading account? Thanks

I'm a dual citizen living in Canada but I'm considering buying property in the US and spending over half a year there

Taxes on futures trading in Canada?

I know in the US when trading futures your profits are taxed as capital gains and not as income, does this apply if you live in Canada as well? Thanks

    3.5%+ up moves

The reason I ask is because the Canadian markets which are rarely volatile was up 4.5% today

    3.5%+ up moves

Does anyone know what the average return is in the markets when there is a 3.5% up move in the averages? Assuming the mantra "the biggest up moves occur in bear markets" I would venture to guess that a month or two after the 3.5% or 4% up day the market should be lower.

    Do gaps 'always' fill?

Well every single gap down in the S&P will always eventually get filled - but you can also just buy any single downtick in the S&P and history says you'll eventually make money, really useless strategy to assume gaps always fill.
