    Pledge of Allegiance unconstitutional

What's this "if in our constitution" crap? Does the constitution claim the world is flat? And as far as the latter point about "religious bias" and getting it out of public schools .... I don't think any halfway intelligent person would think the Pledge of Allegiance is "religious bias"...

    Yahoo now $43.50

I think it's getting close to being a great short. They made a dime last quarter. So should it be trading at around 100 times (or more) earnings? Expected 3 year growth is 30%. Seems like we're heading back to 1999-2000 and some of the outlandish multiples.

Would you give up a steady job to Trade?

I have to disagree with some of the above. Sure it can be tough. I don't "kick myself" if I have losing trades though. That's all part of the game. That's something any good trader has to learn to accept. And if I "win" I don't "kick myself" for not trading more size. Trading more size...

Would you give up a steady job to Trade?

You hit the nail on the head. Making $800 (or more) in a day isn't tough. But we all have losing trades and/or losing days. Any aspiring trader needs to figure this into their projections. Set your goals too high and you set yourself up to fail. Setting more moderate goals initially was how...

    Why traders get no respect

Sorry but money can't buy health. If you had $100 million and were diagnosed with a terminal illness that money won't mean anything. And I do not have an "excess amount of money". I just manage my money fairly well and have a desire to try to give back a little by volunteering. I don't need...

Not sure if patience with kids is easier than patience with the market ... :)

    Why traders get no respect

Money can't buy health. Money can't buy happiness. Money can't buy love. To me money is nothing more than a vehicle for paying the bills. I could make more trading than I do but it would require me to trade more and take away from volunteer activities. And for some of us, the satisfaction we...

Is "Buy bid, sell ask" practical?

At least 90% of my trades are bought at the bid and sold at the ask. Granted the trade may go against you a small amount if you get those fills but I try to play the probabilities of correlating the overall market movement with the individual stock movement.

    SIZE

If not mistaken it was Clint Eastwood who said "A man's got to know his limitations". All kidding aside ... I think the above applies to trading. When one increases size he/she is moving into a new zone of sorts by placing more money on the line. And when that happens it can make your stomach...

What do you dislike about trading?

I don't see a bear market as a "downside". Shorting is as much a part of trading as playing the long side so a bear market provides plenty of opportunity to make money. And given the recent run up I'm making most of my intra-day money on the short side. For the original poster ... I don't...

    Trading Masters Degree

At Univ. of Dayton they are managing real money and apparently have done quite welll as I heard they were recently given more money to manage. The VI²P capstone course is the student-managed portfolio seminar called Flyer Investments. As part of this course, top-ranking undergraduate...

Daytraders coming back to the game

I think most new traders will wash out in time since they seem to jump in the game when the market moves upwards, suggesting to me they play the long side only. Tough to survive longer term if you're not willing to short the market also.

    Fear of success

One has to WANT to go beyond any "ceiling" he/she might set. To achieve success in trading is no small feat. And as an earlier poster mentioned ... what about someone who trades a 100K account successfully but then stumbles or even fails with a 500K account. As one achieves success they gain...

    Fear of success

I think it's fear of failure for most people. Most traders I know had other careers before they started trading and they were fairly successful at those earlier careers. In addition, many funded their trading accounts from what they made in the other professions. So to know you are successful...

    looking to get into trading

My suggestions: (1) write up a business plan as you would if starting any other type of business, (2) be prepared for losses and how you'll react (i.e. can you pay the bills, etc.) (3) find what works for you and stick to it until it's not working ... and that likely will happen as the behavior...
