Best prop firm for remote traders

I think you're wrong on what you posted about the 5K credit card loan just walking in to a prop shop. First, I think one would need their Series 7 to trade there. Next, you present a far fetched scenario of someone broke, no savings, etc. Last, who cares if a person trading their own money is...

    Short against the trend?

I often short when the market is up intra-day. Good days are when the Dow is up 80, 90 or 100 points. You can pretty much count on a pullback, even if just a small one. I typically short the SPY. And on weak days I'll reverse my thinking and go long after a decent intra-day decline.

    Trading after a job layoff

Easy solution ... you're soon to be married? Then ask for cash for wedding gifts and you might raise the other $5K to get up to $25K. Just kidding ....... It's good that you might only have $300 (net) of expenses to cover. Now, next question I'd ask is how supportive is your girlfriend of you...

    Trading after a job layoff

I read through the 20+ posts and didn't see where anyone asked about your expenses. Do you have a mortgage? Car payments? Credit card debt? Family; wife and/or kids? I think that facet (i.e. expenses & family) will play a big role in ultimate success or failure. Also, I'd strongly recommend...

Tax implications, why the rally continues into early 2004.

Can you say "carryover losses" from 2000, 2001 and 2002??

i pulled 37 points out NQ today

I suggest you don't waste your time asking for proof. If someone boasts about something and then refuses to back it up with evidence it's likely wishful thinking, paper trading or the like. I've read his posts long enough to know that it's best to quickly gloss over them due to lack of content.

Worked out okay. Out at $9.00

    Adpt...

I'll see how it plays out by the end of the day. Just looking for a quick pullback now that the NAZ went positive. Cover at $9 or lower by day's end hopefully.

    Adpt...

Personally, I like it as a short candidate at this level. It's run almost 50% in the past 4 months or so. I think semi's are overvalued even with what the sector is saying about growth.

POLL: How shall we punish the Evil Christians?

Shoeshineboy ... it does no good to talk to people like those who posted nonsense, like the above. What's funny is that if you read these posts it shows how terribly uninformed and/or prejudiced they are. I just ignore such people since they don't speak facts ....

    Organize against IB

LOL! The SEC???? I doubt the SEC would have much interest (or reason) to get involved. I don't trade with IB but I'd guess that their uptime is likely quite high.

UNLIMITED trades for one monthly fee

Commissions have fallen ... a LOT! Go back to the mid to late 90's and it was common to pay $25/trade + ECN charges. I think INCA was .015 back then when I traded at All-Tech so trade 1000 through INCA and it was $40 total. Other ECN's were .005 (and often less liquid) to .01 with ISLD being...

    Traders of today...

Don't necessarily agree with the above. I think a lot depends on how long traders have been at it. I started full time early in 1996 so I've seen the bull market of the late 90's as well as the 3 year meltdown from 3/00 to 3/03. I think a lot of people who started trading more recently are giddy...

A long time customer says good bye to IB

Any business why truly values their GOOD customers would make things right. In this case if IB chooses to not do what would seem to be logical and obvious then they lose a good client who generated a good revenue (i.e. commission) stream. Secondly, in this day and age their are a zillion...

Where do you normally daytrade from? Home or Office

I've traded both at an office and at home. Positives at home: (1) Commute is 5 seconds versus 15 minute drive to the trading office (2) Easy to shut down at anytime of day and go to the grocery, go for a run or bike ride or to the beach, etc. And it's then easy to start trading again...

The URGE to Make More $$$

I've been down that road years ago. I can remember making $1000 in the first hour and giving some, or all of it back by the end of the day. Our office manager made a good comment to me. He said that if I'd met my daily profit objective that maybe I should call it a day and head home to enjoy...

Why in and out in this kinda market?

Well, let's see ... that same kind of logic could have been thrown out in early 2000, when the NASDAQ was over 5000. Those who continued to buy back then, and refused to sell, are likely still in a state of shock.

    $$$MR. MARKET$$$'s proof

15% a year for a trader is pathetic. Lost opportunity cost is tieing your money up in a stock that isn't doing much. A trader can make easily make 1%/day (or more) by actually trading his money and not tieing it up for an eternity. Stocks go up and stocks go down ... a trader exploits this and...

    $$$MR. MARKET$$$'s proof

I can't believe anyone who actually considers himself a trader would post crap that was held for well over a year. I'm not sure he understands the concept of "opportunity cost" by having money tied up for so long in "investments".
