    US DOLLAR INDEX tradability?

The $$ Index contract on the NYBOT is not the best to trade. The slippage can be huge! Try the CME/IMM Euro dollar contract.

    CTA Startup

Exactly -- and that is why the survivorship rate of CTA start-ups is very low. Barriers to entry are not high -- series 3, Dis doc, NFA/CFTC registration. If you stay away from lawyers, the startup costs can be held to a minimum. Staying inn business, however, is most difficult and it...

    Euro FX After G7

They will try and might even bring it back up to the Friday closing levels, but the gap open lower is significant. The month of Jan gave us what might be a reversal to the downside. Next trading sessions will tell us for sure. For the moment, I really like the short side.

    Anyone trading Eurex on Monday?

For sure. Eurex will do quite well despite the moaning and groaning of the CBOT. Chicago had years to put in an efficient platform. They never did. Life Connect is good, but they don't use it. It is too bad. The CBOT might be relegated to trading only the grains. The exchange is too...

Depending on what and how you want to trade: limebrokerage. They seem to have a supurb order entry platform. I have not worked with them, but like what I see.

    http://www.velocityfutures.com

No expereience with them and they do look interesting for the very high volume and self directed futures traders. In fact that is what they state on their site. It appears that they are limited to the financial electronic exchanges. I.e. no real commodities. They are less than a year...

    Looking for Futures Broker

Where are you located? Europe, Asia, North or South America? What kind of service are you looking for? Some things to look out for: No extra fees when you have to call a desk. No extra chrages for options, a well capitalized FCM. And of course, access to a good eletronic order entry...

    Multiple Commodity Strategy

Good move to the grains. Those contracts have great liquidity and provide lots of opportunity where margins do not approach that of the financial contracts. Having said that, please do be wary of trading these instruments based on much of the Cycle work flying around out there. I have been...

    Soybeans?

November is the most important delivery month of the year for Soybeans. It is the first monht of the "new" crop. It carries the largest commerical interest, and of course specs take the other side of that interest. November is THE month for soybeans. Hope this helps.

    Datafeed

If you want to pay for it, CQG is still the best. Best Data, best feed, best charting. You can do some decent p[rograming and testing. But it costs. I have nothing to do with the firm, but used it for years. Nothing compares.

    Best data feed/charting?

CQG is the best data feed and charting application out there. I've been at this for over a decade and used many products out there. Not one is better, no matter what your style of trading is. Caveat: it costs!

Survival characteristics of CTAs, traders, & hedge funds

It is true. Trading for the BIG HIT will not survive over time. Yet, that is what most traders and investors want and expect, or hope for. That is always the killer. Consistent, steady and systematic returns are what will survive and profit. If you look at CTA who have a track record...

    Gold spike

Good points and congratulations. But as you know, I am not commenting your profile. I certaintly imagine you are NOT trading a 5K account, or even a 20K account, but something quite different. Apologies if I sounded like I meant traders were dupes for the brokerage industry. My jab is at...

    Gold spike

Well, yes, of course Vola is a good thing. Especially for the short term trader. But my mind was on the position trader -- one who attempts to recognize and capture a trend and hold it for weeks or even months. And even build upon a position as the trend takes hold. In an extremely...

    Gold spike

Don't know about a grasshoper, but if interested do take a look at the last weeks and months in beans and wheat. Yeilds are down, heat is high, rain is still scare (might change) and dollar is trending down. These are some of the things make bull moves in grain products. But I am...

    Gold spike

yes, that is Friday's reason. But overall gold has been trending up since...well, it actually started late last spring. It was then that gold broke out of a HUGE multi year bear market. There is money to be made on both sides of the gold market, ( like all commodity markets) but the trend...

    Soybean and derivatives....

Am new to this forum, and don't know how to link a URL, but on the CBOT web site there is an excellent explanation of hte Soybean Crush: http://www.cbot.com/cbot/www/cont_detail/0,1493,14+477+6173,00.html If this link does not work, you can find it under "Knowledge Center" and then Under...
