Do you pay a fee when your option expires?

Is IB (Interactive Brokers) viable from Russia? -- I don't know, but know people in other countries that use them. They have competitive commissions.

Do you pay a fee when your option expires?

Say, initially you BUY a specific option. (This was a Buy to open a position) Then you merely SELL that option! (This becomes a Sell to close a position). I would never exercise, but your broker has a specific order for "exercise", which you likely should never use. The fee for "selling the...

Do you pay a fee when your option expires?

Regarding first part of question: underlying goes up (call strike below current price)... Sell the option instead of "exercise" should always (unless some flaky business going on) be more profitable, as you receive both extrinsic and intrinsic value. If you exercise, you forfeit the extrinsic...

ES OTM Put Option Performance During Flash Crash

Why not look for yourself? See how different techniques would have performed by using historic data. If you have TOS, you can use OnDemand to examine SPX option trades. I don't think OnDemand is supporting Futures options yet, but the SPX should give an idea. -- Your question is too general...

Selling vertical call spread before ex-dividend date

Pekelo: Ah! If you would like to observe how the script works without having to "mess with it", here is a link: "http://tos.mx/mNoH9C" To use this in TOS, the easiest mechanism is to Click Setup: Open shared item ... And paste that link as follows: In the Shared item URL: Then "Open"...

Selling vertical call spread before ex-dividend date

Another twist: (This has not been vetted, so consider with doubt). If the underlying is trending down already, it "could" be possible the value of the underlying is being held up only by some waiting for the Dividend, then plan to dump. If so, NAT could also be interesting! (Ie.. something...

Selling vertical call spread before ex-dividend date

I used the TOS SCAN, to find upcoming dividend plays, and sorted in profitability order. -- This scan (grading in the SCAN) was complicated, so you may prefer a manual process. --- many more scripts required and was difficult to manage.

Selling vertical call spread before ex-dividend date

Pekelo: Here is a TOS ThinkScript I wrote a while back I used to aid analyzing similar trades. For the Notation (m,n) m is Number days prior to ExDividend for trade entry n is Number of days after ExDividend for exit m is 4,3,2, & 1 n is 1,0 All trades default to Close on Daily bars. (only...

Selling vertical call spread before ex-dividend date

A couple follow-up questions, incase I have missed something: 1) You are expecting a price action of a security around Ex-Dividend time that you are trying to profit from, correct? 2) Your references to options is merely a tool for exploiting or leveraging the price change (referenced in 1...

systematictrader: You may have missed my point. It does NOT work! There is no edge! It is a very slow "bleed" if done wisely! <-- At least this is what I found!

Looking for efficient way to compare bids/asks on vertical call spreads

There is more info about this than you can shake a stick at! -- You can go to a trade page in TOS, and near the upper right corner, click on the icon to the right of the "gear", then ->Export ->to Microsoft Excel. Then Paste to an open Excel sheet. This provides some examples that may be of...

Looking for efficient way to compare bids/asks on vertical call spreads

Correct! -- Excel (and only Excel) supports a RTD mechanism that TOS also supports. Below is a sample formula in Excel to reference a specific BID price on an option: =RTD("tos.rtd",,"BID",".SPX170217P2255")

Selling vertical call spread before ex-dividend date

Kinda.. The "theoretical opportunity" is that the price movement down exceeds the amount of the Dividend (for some securities), and if true, trade to exploit that slight excess move. In my case I purchased PUTs that were > 2 weeks out (to minimize theta burn for the max 5 days in the trade)...

Selling vertical call spread before ex-dividend date

Below is an example of a trade I was trying before. Observing prior price action of Devon Energy around Ex Dividend time (looking 4 days prior, to one day following), and looking for a downward move greater than the ExDividend value, implies that the best performance is to sell 4 days prior to...

Looking for efficient way to compare bids/asks on vertical call spreads

Another thought: I think your evaluation, may need to be specific for the underlying you are referencing! Criteria for RUT or SPX may be quite different for FB or TSLA, and different again for IWM or SPY. (IWM & SPY being the most trivial to evaluate due to the liquidity and relative stability)

Looking for efficient way to compare bids/asks on vertical call spreads

Why not use RTD in Excel to pull exactly what you want and perform whatever algo's you desire? Via RTD, you can access the BID/ASK/OpenInterest/Volume/LAST, and pretty much any info you desire. You may also wish to accumulate results overtime to observe changes, if that interests you -- this...

Selling vertical call spread before ex-dividend date

Pekelo: You likely have much more experience with this than I, so take with grain of salt. I did some work with trading around dividends (backtesting and live). I found no systematic edge by observing history! -- seemed to have similar results to dice rolling! Observing 10 out of 10 successes...

50 cent, the mysterious VIX call options buyer...

Perhaps 50cents works for Soros, and is responsible for hedging > 10% SPX drops (pick a better number). (But must be hedging a huge pile of positions). I have no idea, but when I first wrote that, it did not stink too bad. (the stench is building, however) ;-(
