Pays more to be on welfare than get a job.

some of the "facts" are misleading and blatantly false. "When it comes to gauging the value of welfare benefits, it is important to remember that they are not taxed, while wages are. In fact, in some ways, the highest marginal tax rates anywhere are not for millionaires, but for someone...

    Premium Sellers vs. Option Buyers

Red Duke I have done and occasionally do what you have suggested, however the problem in calling it a "hedge" (which I have) is exactly what both Mav and sle have said...you have just opened yourself to unbounded risk in the other direction. I occasionally do get long or short the cash if my...

    Premium Sellers vs. Option Buyers

your correct, if vol is "realtively" high then going FOTM is "safer" than when vol is low....however if your placing a bet on lower vol then why go really far out? Far more meat near the money. sheesh..I must be channeling other traders the above statement was not me 10 yrs ago:) I agree...

    Premium Sellers vs. Option Buyers

I primarily sell premium (and listen often to Tom and Tony in the early am) but do buy it in low vol environments. I would caution you on the idea of going too far OTM in high vol simply because it is so easy to become complacent and there is a higher risk/reward involved. Also what IS high...

    2013 [P&L journal]

fwiw....I notice in almost every other post you berate yourself for either missing a plus trade or not making what you "should" have. I heard somewhere athletes and traders needed short memories. If you listen to really good ones they almost NEVER reference their losses...they focus on their...

    ES Price Action at night

NY its actually become pretty interesting. While TF is right there is much more volume RTH...there often is quite a bit of movement especially during the opening of the European markets. The whole world trades the ES. I've also found many of my GTC ES option contracts get filled at night...

    any option sellers

Hi Eddie, agree the past two days have been good to balance my deltas. July over all was pretty slim pickings with vix so low as to make straddle/strangles not worth the risk. I picked GC long by selling a 1200 Sep put and short CL by selling a Aug (closed for profit) then 109.5 short Sept...

    SPX - Uptrend channel resistance

Nice chart...I was just looking at a monthly chart and realized we have not had a trend this strong since 05 (also 95'96)..not counting the very strong rebound from 666 in 08. Only a fool would act on a prediction of an end. I simply respect the channel and "try" to position for the long side...

    ES Journal - 2013

looking at the vix this am saw that since late DEC we have had a spike about every 2 months. Playing on the chance we have a spike in the vix next week buying some puts...not brave enough to short directly but heck the ES weekly puts are pretty darn cheap.

    ES Journal - 2013

for 10 fning years SPX/ES went basically no where with heart stopping draw downs and some 50 pt upswings in the pre market that ruined many a decent trader...take a look at 1999-2009 before you make such an inane comment. The problem with the draw downs is you run out of margin if your trading...

    Trading Weeklys on Expiration

Intra- day trading the weekly options has been tried many times but it IS risky and unpredictable and I have not seen anyone do this with ANY long term success. Getting fills will be your main issue, you will win some, lose some and the only consistent winner will be your broker.

What are the drivers of oil price?

same here..just that ES has been dead in the water the past month saw that OIL "seemed" too high at 108 and sold a call...gold "seemed" to low so sold a put... but they are not my comfort zone. I have absolutely no feel or even real understanding of either so very seldom take flyers.

    hmm.no edges in the markets

so this am on "Tastytrade" Tom Preston of TOS said he/they had done a fairly intensive comparison of "edges" between 4 casino games being very generous with the casino games (assuming expert players) and trading short index options. Results: Slots =...
