    Don's Openings, Part 6 2003

glad it worked for you - I am still excluding news stocks, but may add it in under a similar plan - there has been some debate about what is news and what isnt, but it is all a matter of personal choice and comfort

    Don's Openings, Part 6 2003

I'm new to this, so I exclude news so that I dont freak out. What you could do, as a compromise would be to compute a wider envelope on stocks with news, so that you only catch them if their move is more extreem

    Don's Openings, Part 6 2003

you know, I was skeptical of this stategy, but gave it a try starting Monday 4 winning days in a row, (starting small) 10+ fills with 1 small loser (@ $5) nothing is perfect, but I am convinced this has an edge if executed carefully and cautiously nice contribution to this forum Don!

    Arne Alsin's 2002 Turnaround Portfolio

I read RM occasionally, and I always thought he came across as an immature know it all idiot. It doesnt matter how great you think your picks are if you fail to notice that it is still a bear market. In a bear market, you are either out or closely timing based on the technicals. "Buy and...

    Dumbest remark for 2002

This is from 2001, but I'l count it since it has not been retracted, and sums up the general investment advice out there that helped people lose ANOTHER 17% this year "Just Relax" from Charles Schwab, March 2001 If there ever were a time for investors to WAKE THE HECK UP, it was then. Up...

How to lose or make a fortune with Fibo :)

It's my opinion that this Bear will go on for a while, but guys like Pretcher are more like the "Dow 36,000" guys than he knows. A lot of Elliot wave guys (Pretcher for instance) have a really bad habit of saying "we were early (like 5 years)", or "it was really an alternative wave count"...

How do you manage your trades??

I go one of two ways, depending on how actively I am trading. If managing passivly, I set an automatic trailing stop equal to the distance to below the previous support (for a long, above previous resistance for a short). If manageing more actively, I will continue to monitor previous...

Anyone use Stockcharts.com as their primary charting software

I use e-signal for real time charting, but have kept a subscription to stockcharts because it's cheap and I think the charts are better for longer term perspective, particualry if a large number of MAs and indicators are used. I dont think they have real time, but I havnt looked for about a...

    Gary B Smith of Realmoney.com

Thanks for the link. I did some research, and it does seem that many(most) in that forum use his style, rather than his picks (particularly his paid service). I looked into this because it seems that many there were not doing as well as Smith's claimed performance, and this bothered me...

    Gary B Smith of Realmoney.com

smith is with realmoney.com not to be argumentative, but canslim does use earnings growth, a fundamental consideration, Smith does not use fundamentals at all, so I feel that makes the two methods different enough to not warrent giving credit.

    Gary B Smith of Realmoney.com

(I read the delayed version of his posts) I found this to be too "what you could have/should have" done to be actionable. I agree that it can be used to learn to find your own picks, but I wanted to see what his "real time" thinking is, since he has been doing this a lot longer than I have...

    Gary B Smith of Realmoney.com

(He provides the entry point, his loss cut is a close below the buy point, the only thing he doesn't provide is how to take profits. But to figure that out, you need to watch the price volume action of the stock.) on a side note, how do people get the "quoted from" block in their posts...
