Thursday 1st of February - the alternative triple witching hour with GOOGL, AAPL and AMZN

So after the close the three tech majors will report earnings; if we follow the "logic" of the TastyTrade recommendations to sell premium this would be the moment to 'go for it the Karen super-trader way'. The Friday straddles are trading at: AMZN - $103.50 - predicting a range of move ~7% AAPL...

    Iron Condor on TSLA

You are right TSLA is caught in a range sort of between 310-380. I havent done your IC but made directional bets in the period any time it was below 320$ and bailing around the 360$ mark - its been consistently profitable.

The impossibility to compare brokerage fees

20$ per order is not the same as per option - just to qualify. I dont trade single lots usually 10 options at the minimum.

The impossibility to compare brokerage fees

(warning bit of a rant) Because people on here spoke of IB having the lowest fees I started to look at comparing them to my current broker here in Europe called Keytrade. My main comparison metric would be the option trading costs as these account for the vast majority of my trading fees which...

Options only portfolio money management and diversification

Like I posted I do not trade for a living, but I do trade mostly options. The ETF section of my portfolio is chosen on the same basis as I choose stocks. The sectors are simply the DJS/STOXX 600 sectors with the STXe 600 Real Estate sector added in. The ETFs are pure trackers of those sectors -...

using a protective collar to protect gains

The numbers are rounded up or down to make the proposition look as attractive as possible but not that far off as to be misleading. Having said that - if you dont have portfolio margin you would need to block a chunk of money in your margin account to do this.

‘50 Cent’ Is Buying Up Big on March VIX Calls

I am sorry that I am not being clear, when the market is in full correction the bid/ask spread on VIX options widens enormously. This means that you cannot provide liquidity to either side of the market as you suggest. This is a function of market makers realising that the spike in the VIX will...

‘50 Cent’ Is Buying Up Big on March VIX Calls

You havent seen bid/ask spreads of the VIX when the market is in full correction? Its not the volume that is the issue - its that you wont get a price quote where you arent scalped for all you are worth.

A bit of nostalgia - Opening day CBOE 1973

If you are going to mention Amsterdam you should say that it was the first options exchange opened in Europe on April 4 1978 and they were waaaaay ahead of anyone else.

‘50 Cent’ Is Buying Up Big on March VIX Calls

Sure it would - but for how long? The VIX options are European and you wont be able to exit when the market is in full correction., The correction will be swift and the VIX will drop fast after that.

Options only portfolio money management and diversification

As I dont trade for a living nor do I exclusively trade options hence I avoided responding to your thread. However options are the instrument I trade most frequently. As someone averred above trading is 98% psychology and 2% luck, I try and play to both. As you mention its hard to sit and watch...

    Options assignment lotteries

Reading that I get this odd feeling that for the past 30 years of my life I have been dodging bullets. I certainly been short many times (Deep ITM yes, till expiry no) and was never assigned on anything.

likelihood after nvda reaching 325$ or beyond Jan 2019

@HobbyTrading I would agree on the hype. Fortunately there is also an increasing amount of graphics chips required in cars as is. Tesla led the way there with their gigantic screens inside the car. Then various assisted driving aspects come into play. NVDIA is in there and its a market that...

likelihood after nvda reaching 325$ or beyond Jan 2019

@ggelitetrader000 I can concur with what you say - I work on regulatory issues related to the semi-conductor industry and know the sector for that reason. NVDIA is a hard act to follow and they are well managed - noone is ever invulnerable and certainly AMD is excellent technically its just from...

likelihood after nvda reaching 325$ or beyond Jan 2019

For the moment the up trend of NVDIA is intact - the p/e is lofty but they are consistently beating earnings estimates by a very wide margin. Last quarter the expectations were high but they were crushed by+50% - revenue (near 50%+), income (near trebled) and cash flow (almost treble) have...

Backspread a de facto free hedge if you are short?

ok so we have the following criteria (to be added to): - everything has a cost - we are willing to pay for the privilege of being bearish/insuring our portfolio but of course not more than necessary; - timing the market is impossible hence we must plan for time decay to impact our strategy and...

    Noob VIX Futures Options Questions

@Ocho - you should beware of attempting to buy calls in the VIX as a hedge. Volatility spikes if there is a major downturn of course but you will find the market becomes illiquid/ prices will not be good for ITM calls. The options are European after all and the MM knows that even in a major...

Backspread a de facto free hedge if you are short?

Funny you should resurrect this thread - I was analysing what I did back in 2008 and what would have been the best strategy for analogous reasons to yours. Whilst I dont think a meltdown is close in time, it does seem reasonable to think of strategies to plan for it in the medium to longer...

What's the closing price of SPY?

source After hours SPY traded over 267$ all the time. The 4 PM close maybe under 267$ but if your counterparty was a professional that didnt head home early on Friday you might be assigned anyhow.
