I trade a lot of things but mostly equities and we're probably saying the same thing more or less. :) What I do is look at the last several volume bars to see if there is any progression - like increasing or decreasing volume over the last half hour, hour, etc. I don't just trade off one bar but...

Agree. Too short a reference and you're looking at too much volume "noise". But I look at 5 min charts too. But that's what I meant but you clarified well. :)

It's also useful to keep an eye on the volume to see where it may pick up or fade with each advance/rally or pullback/selloff.

Great point. But you also need to have clear rules set that would make you change your mind on your position and reduce the size or add to it or just close it out.

Good points. I noticed that the last few days too, especially Thursday, people were focused on the wrong time frame trying to short intraday, with sometimes larger positions, a market which was obviously heading higher. We have a tendency to remember what happened yesterday and the day before...

Actually there is software to create this type of drawing effect from photos. Photoshop, for instance, has filters that turn photos into black and white drawings. :)

I probably spend about 12 hrs a day on average doing this and I hang out during the day in several trading rooms with hundreds of other traders and that's what I sense. As you say, if you don't have a strong sense of what's up in the market then it just becomes gambling and I for one am not...

FWIW I find this a difficult market to get a handle on and I've been trading a lot less myself as have many of the other traders I hang out with.
