Prudent Risk Management + No Edge = Positive Expectancy??

Start with getting caught up on the literature. Why do you think there's an opportunity intraday and what does current research say about it?

TA question often asked... "Do trendlines work"?

While you follow Scat and lose money, I’ll do what I do and make money. :-)

    efficient stop loss

I made a hypothetical because I was being charitable and didn’t realize you were going to play semantics lol.

    efficient stop loss

I think you’re wrapping yourself around a game of semantics. Catalysts are informational events, as in, 100% of the time material information is released.

    efficient stop loss

I wouldn’t classify those guys as analysts in the traditional sense. What is portrayed on TV is pretty different from what actual analysts and portfolio managers do.

TA question often asked... "Do trendlines work"?

Nah. Figure out what you want to trade (asset class/security) and then figure out the opportunity you’re trying to harvest (momentum? Value? Trend? Etc.), and then work on building signals specifically for that. Generic/catch all sort of indicators are more like broken clocks.

TA question often asked... "Do trendlines work"?

Nope. Great in hindsight but not useful otherwise. You can use 250day and 20day sma’s to track momentum, but it’s not a great trading signal on a per stock basis.

Prudent Risk Management + No Edge = Positive Expectancy??

Ok. Focus on research into vol and study structures. Follow @destriero and his journals. Ask @taowave and others where you run into questions. Take it seriously. You’ll find your style.

    efficient stop loss

Huh? If I know something happens 80% of the time that is sufficient basis to expect it to occur again, no?

    efficient stop loss

Good question. Part of the skill set of a buy side analyst is to uncover critical factors (major embedded scenarios) and catalysts (informational events). There’s usually at least one tradeable event for most stocks every month or so, and most analysts will cover 50-80 stocks.

    efficient stop loss

You should place your stop loss at the price you are "wrong". I'll give you an example. Say XYZ stock is trading at $57.50 and has earnings tomorrow. You think the stock will trade to $65 but know that there is a bear thesis that will drive the stock down to $50. At $57.50 you're roughly at...

    Are you still trading options?

Prudent Risk Management + No Edge = Positive Expectancy??

No. You're being fooled by randomness. Try to build a profitable style. Then, add risk management.

How do famous swing traders like Dan Zanger size up so fast?

You guys are a bit too gullible. Yes there are plenty of ways to make money investing and trading. However, there's a distinction between luck and skill. To know whether someone is skillful, you would need to not just audit their performance but also conduct an attribution analysis. This is a...

How do famous swing traders like Dan Zanger size up so fast?

Er… who are these people? In a large enough system there are people who have a long enough winning streak to be wealthy, but don’t confuse luck with skill. You can’t replicate luck. Depending on your style, and the volatility of your trade, size your position to avoid ruin.
