How much time does it take to have consistently positive trading results?

Now you're asking me to justify a profitable strategy and how readily it can be learned from how easy it is to find. That's a different question. What I said was that a strategy like this could be learned and put into use by a new trader within 2 weeks. What do you see about the strategy that...

How much time does it take to have consistently positive trading results?

I know its profitable because it always has been. I didn't invent this, its not a secret or obscure strategy that has to be tested, the basic principles are unchanged since the earliest days of price charts. OK, I favour the 50EMA, many others would use the 200 or the 20 or a combination of the...

How much time does it take to have consistently positive trading results?

Trend-following on long-term charts. Perhaps the oldest and dullest trading technique. In more detail, target the 28 forex major charts from the 8 major currencies. Use D1 charts only. Define pairs which are in consistent uptrends or downtrends using the slopes of the 20 and 50EMA's. Focus in...

How much time does it take to have consistently positive trading results?

I love your posts on ET. As a slight detour - In one of the organisations I used to work for I was assistant to a boss who regularly delayed him and me and other colleagues and teams under him from starting a job until we had just 5 minutes before the deadline. Especially if it was a job that...

How much time does it take to have consistently positive trading results?

I understand your incredulity, and its quite true that many profitable traders spent years losing money and wiping out accounts before they broke through. I also have to be really clear about what I'm saying. Which is that its possible to achieve competence with a profitable system within 2...

How much time does it take to have consistently positive trading results?

70-80% of traders active today have not bothered to learn to trade and either don't intend to or they'll get wiped out before they can.

How much time does it take to have consistently positive trading results?

The 10,000 hours rule has been expanded into entirely inappropriate contexts and subjects where its use has been severely discredited. Where the 10,000hrs rule is correct is the time needed to bring an average person from picking up a musical instrument to becoming an international concert...

    String of losses

I think we could make the same observation with regards understanding what it is you want to do.

    String of losses

I get strings of losses due to two reasons - sudden increase in volatility and trend failure. But I don't find either significantly damaging to the account. They're annoying but I think of them as inevitable. Why should I get involved in trying to eliminate these strings?

    Broker recommendations!!

Firstly spreads widen and contract continuously. I was watching USD/JPY pre-US open the other day: in 1 minutes it ranged between 0.6 pips to 1.2 pips and every price in between. This sort of limited spread move probably reflects the company's total exposure to risk on this pair as their clients...

Potential snags with candle pattern trading

Candlesticks etc. are not the DNA or the fingerprints or the chemical analysis of what the market has been doing or will do next. They are a reasonable guide to your decision-making but that's it. They don't predict what the market will do, only what you wish to do about it.

EURO vs USD : Bullish structure

This is a terrible pair to trade off the daily charts and people say often its also bad intra-day. It seems to range rather than trend and when it gets into any kind of move that's in danger of becoming a trend, it reverses every 5 bars. On top of which its the ECB who run the Euro. Or so they...

    Broker recommendations!!

Yes. Also each broker varies their spreads every minute of each day. Each pair has 2 prices, bid (sell) and ask (buy). The ask is never lower than the bid. Watch the quoted bid-ask prices on your preferred target pair minute by minute to see how spread varies. Watch at high risk times like...

No, it applies to all clients located in the UK. Since SB profits are not legally classed as income, and they do not arise from assets, there is no mechanism for anyone to be taxed on them.

Can someone evaluate my currency "strategy"?

Currencies are one investment that literally not a single person in the world can evaluate long-term. Whereas its inevitable that the Dow Jones Industrial Average will be higher long-term.

    Broker recommendations!!

If you're in the UK do not overlook the financial spreadbetting providers. They are FCA-regulated exactly like any other brokers. The nice thing is that SB profits are completely exempt from UK tax.

    Recommendation for Forex broker?

If you're in the UK don't overlook the financial spreadbetting providers. They are FCA-regulated under just the same regulations as CFD brokers. But - all profits from spreadbetting in the UK are tax-free, no need to even keep records or submit them on a self-assessment. SB spreads are not...

Best strategy for a new person.

Start on the D1 time-frame. Look for steady consistent trends that are repeated across most of the same currency's major charts and follow them: enter as price resumes the trend after a pull-back. Always set a stop-loss just outside the pull-back. Don't use indicators for entries. Avoid the exotics.

How much money is trading the forex market versus how much is just normal world events?

A lot of TA is cleverly devised but either unnecessary for trading or even worse misused by traders. At the basic level the simplest TA feature is a trend. Once in a trend, the most likely thing price will do next is continue the trend. This is so in forex as it is everywhere else in all...
