    GM Bankruptcy Thread

wow talk about the worst comparison ever. you're comparing american cars from the 80s and early 90s to an 06 honda? even the worst car today is better than any car in the 80s. i had a jap car from the early 90s and it was one of the most unreliable cars ever. what does that prove? very little...

Anybody trading 100+ SPX options per order

who trades at bid/ask anyway? enter a limit order somewhere in between and you'll get a fill. the best product depends on your trading strategy. you should try all of them (spx, spy and es) and see what's best for you. obviously if spy & es were the end-all, then spx wouldn't be around but...

cars, like many things, are a status symbol. they are fashionable just like clothes and personal electronics. an ipod can last 10 years, but why do poeple buy a new one everytime the new model comes out? i know people who change cell phones every year just to have the latest.

how to protect your account from huge catastrophic events.

if you trade individual stocks or stock options, you need to worry about massive gap-downs overnight. but for indices, i don't think the market can fall overnight by 20% due to limit down on futures. it may fall 5% overnight then continue to fall when the market opens, but at least you have...

    Zillow - Real Estate Market

the areas in calif that are dropping hard are the less desirable areas such as stockton, merced, bakersfield, riverside, etc. these are bedroom communities for los angeles and san jose/san francisco. desirable places like sf which didn't undergo a building boom in 2003-6 have not dropped much...

So when are we going to stop allowing casinos to determine the price of gas and food?

well now that oil is so expensive, i expect the proven oil reserves around the world to increase. as for high gas prices provoking a fundamental social change, it's happening. gm announced it is making a strategic, permanent shift from suvs to smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles.

WTF are you talking about????? so you're saying that if stocks cannot be bought on margin, you have 1:1 odds of making money. guaranteed profit!!  i nominate this for et's dumbest post of 2008. believe you me, to be nominated for such an award on this forum is quite a...

So when are we going to stop allowing casinos to determine the price of gas and food?

speculators got their ass handed to them in 2001 (tech bubble) and 2006 (housing bubble). it'll happen again. we don't need to do anything, just let it happen on its own.

Think Or Swim and Options on Futures?

i have pm with tos and they do not cross-margin between fut options and equity/index options. at least i did not see any between es and spx.

Dennis Gartman predicts massive waves of selling in commodities

demand doesn't have to double for prices to double. the supply/demand/price curve is non-linear. if supply was tight, as it has been, then a modest increase in demand can bring about exponential increase in prices.

    Mixed Martial Arts

i didn't even bother watching the kimbo fight because i knew it was gonna be lame. he's just a passing fad, the william hung of fighting. everyone knows he's not any good, but people watch because he's the blue-collar underdog who got to where he is through perseverence and toughness (not talent...

Why not keep the markets open 20 hours a day?

some markets like globex are already opened most of the day. you'll find the liquidity sucks afterhours. even if you build it, they won't necessarily come.
