    Program Trading

Anyone know when trading programs start shooting down orders? And what does "Buy Threshold" and "Sell Threshold" mean? I think I saw program traders today by the close.

Its a well known fact that V trades with 4 cars overnight, and 10 intraday.

    Trader P/L 2005

Thought there is more to go to the downside. Added couple more to a losing position, afterall you are better off with more contracts when it does go your way. What I was risking got a little too much, thus I gave my stop a bit more room to not get shaked out. Prices exploded up, and...

But when I do make money, I do make a lot as well. I just hate that feeling of getting stopped out.

Lost 80 or some points on a 10 car short positon on the YM. It went up around +120 pts. I do too much size, let losses ride, and I also add to losers. I am not a trader, trading is just a legal way for me to get high.

    Trader P/L 2005

Big huge ball is the big huge trend up. Shorted 10 cars of YM and watched it lose money all day. I added onto a loser as well. (What else do ya expect?) I have real trouble trading on days when there is a huge pending news. I had the "it is about to go down anytime" mindset and shorted...

Correlation between P/L and use of stop orders...

"I'm very profitable (over $100k/yr), and rarely to never use stop orders." If you are "very profitable" then you don't really have to worry about 2 or 3 ticks going against you. But, not the case with most 90% of the losers though.

I wish I could say the same. My first loss on the very 3rd trade was for 88%. (1st and 2nd being trial trades). My last loss (today) was for ~35% of my equity. I am the one who needs to paper trade. :(

    Trader P/L 2005

I got crushed by a big huge ball. Exactly -$3000 for the day. A huge chunk of equity in my account is gone.

I heard he will be naming the next batch, "The Salamanders".

Its too late man. I am not sure if he is still taking applicants. That was a dumb bet anyway.

    paper trading futures

My suggestion is that go live with real money. You might be a superstar trader, and might not ever have to paper trade. But, you won't be able to find that out if you papertrade first. Go live with real money, and only if you run out of it should you paper trade.

Correlation between P/L and use of stop orders...

Also, anyone can put on a stop order, but it is hard to stick with it when the heat is on.

Correlation between P/L and use of stop orders...

Not many extremely short term traders use stops while almost all the longer term traders use stops. I am sure whatever theory you may have, it will not be reflective of all the traders.

    YM Gap Down Back testing

Maybe there is a way to differentiate between gap downs based on news, and the ones without any news?

    The turtles. Are they real?

If you advertise on the WSJ, and select a small subsection from a huge number of applicants, of course you can teach them how to trade. But, can you teach someone how to trade who don't really want to be a trader?

    YM Gap Down Back testing

are you kidding me? London bombings: Gapped down -70 pts, went up +140 pts. Hurricane: Gapped down around -60 pts, went up +110 pts. I found a way to regularly lose money when it gaps down. All you have to do is just short it. I know there has to a different way of doing it.
