    Todd Harrison is writing again

He admits to being overly cautious on this run up, but wasn't short the market for 150 points or anything like that. His style sounds pretty risk averse and makes heavy use of derivitives. He often mentions that he will be long stock and long puts and trade around a position like that, adding...

Dow DEFINITELY looks good to 9000

How's Elaine Garzarelli been doing since she called the '87 crash? One hit wonders don't only appear as 80's hair bands. I predict JJ has blown his wad on good calls already.

House cap. gains cut to cap at 15%?

I heard that reits are not subject to the 15% cap, but what about preferred shares and exchange traded debt that pay income in the form of dividends?

    Expe/room

They are being acquired for stock, which is why they trade tick for tick with each other. If it was a cash deal, the companies being acquired would be pinned to the purchase price +/- any risk premium. FYI, I've been trading the USAI- EXPE, ROOM, TREE spreads, here are the stock swap ratios...

    Don's Openings, Part 6 2003

Is there a point to that post, comparing daytraders to responsible investors?

    Demise Of Soros' Influence

"KNOWING" you are right can be dangerous in trading. The guys at LTCM knew they were right (they were, all their spreads eventually came back). But their confidence (arrogance) led to position sizes that meant if the market didn't wise up and agree with them soon enough, they were out of...

    Go BIG or Go Home!!

I try not to let P/L dictate how I trade. Ideally, I'd be cool and trade the same way no matter how much I was up or down. It depends on how the day is shaping up (choppy or high volume trend), but I tend to protect profits tighter the more I'm up.

    Remote w/Echo, Andover, or GreenTree

Sounds like someone who hasn't used THE HAMMER!!! And now you can add Echopoint to the list of nickel and dime charges that they'll hit you for.

You mean you had a good idea, got drunk, and now you can't remember it? That's a rough condition to have.

    Back to the Basics

Brandon, my experience has been the same as you've mentioned. I started with some knowledge of the markets and some trading experience, but it wasn't until I picked up on one strategy that clicked for me and then worked at it relentlessly that I've made consistently good money. No matter how...

Comments on eSignal 7.x and above

Spread charts available as candle or bar charts. Line charts suck! This is the only thing keeping me from making the jump from qcharts.

    Continuous contracts

Esignal says they do it on the rollover dates used by the exchanges. Some contracts have exceptions, can't remember which ones though.

    Does anyone trade only 1hour?

I make 85% of my money in the first 20 minutes of the day. I could stop there and still have a good year. But I can't stop, because....I....must.....TRADE!

POLL: What do you do with your excess daytrading profits?

In order: 1. fund a commodity futures/currency trading account 2. pay off all personal debt, including mortgage 3. set aside a ton of money for next year's taxes :( 4. max out tax deferred retirement savings plans 5. build a cache of one year's living expenses 6. pay cash for a...

    Mouse - mind connection

ALL traders have been there, done that at one time or another. The fix for me was to just trade size that was small enough that the money truley didn't matter. Since you are undercapitalized and a one lot is already too big for you to handle emotionally, I'd say your best option would be to...
