    Dividends

I've been looking into this recently with preferred shares and exchange traded debt. The dividends are decent and if the credit rating of the company isn't in flux, they trade esentially flat. There is an extremely low risk of the stock or bond blowing up on you overnight. It would be easy to...

    Charting software for pairs trading?

I haven't found anything simpler to use or better than qcharts for charting spreads.

    Dividends

Ex-dividend is the date that the stock trades without the right to recieve the dividend and has already accounted for the date of record. If you own it before the ex-date and sell on the ex-date, you will recieve the dividend.

patriotic rally coming on the news 7 POWs rescued.

Remember September 17, 2001- "Come on everyone, let's show our colors and support America by buying stocks today" Spoos dropped 150 points by the end of the week. Patriotism has it's place, but not in trading.

    Luck be a Lady

Sounds like the 5 minute version of Taleb's book "Fooled by Randomness". I hadn't really given much thought to the subject until reading that book, but now it colors a lot of my thinking about money management.

Demographic Poll #2 -- Where are ET members located?

Besides Arizona, Saskatchewan also doesn't go on daylight savings time. So I have summer time hours (mountain time zone) and winter hours (central)

    Todd Harrison is writing again

Insight into a great trader's thought process and views of the market. Some idea of the 'flow' on the street and how most intitutions and hedgies are positioning. It's true, he doesn't give enough details like in the RealMoney days to trade directly off of. But you get the gist of what he's...

eSignal 7.3 beta with popout windows - anyone tried it yet?

I've never used the product before trying out the latest beta. Two things you have to add is spread charts available in bar or candle format, and be able to calculate spreads with whole numbers in the formula. Right now you can't chart any merger spreads that include a cash component.

    Todd Harrison is writing again

His style is heavily oriented towards options and he's admited that he's been overly cautious with these rallies. But he also states that he'll get long some spy in a strong tape, or "rent exposure" as he puts it. He is setting up a lot of gamma trades now, combining mostly May puts and...

    Where Are We Headed?

Break the SP500 200 day ma and recent highs with enough of a pop to suck in the money waiting to buy on a pullback and make the stubborn shorts throw in the towel. Then once everyone is long and complacent, a slow rollover as the economy comes back into focus, culminating in a whoosh of selling...

    SSFs & Dividends

The price of the ssf will reflect the dividend payout of the common stock. If you are long a futures contract, you are not entitled to recieve a dividend payment, nor do you have to pay it if you are short.

    SSFs & Dividends

I thought that you were supposed to be able to hold ssf's in a stock account, unlike other futures that require a futures account. But as I undertand it, all the brokerages only allow ssf's in a futures account right now, making stock delivery to settle impossible at this point. Is this true...

Yeah, Herb Greenberg at Realmoney.com. They've moved him to the very pricey Street Insight now though.

    Sec Fees

The surplus goes into the government's general revenue fund. And they don't make a secret of the fact that the SEC only uses a fraction of the money, it's just a straight out hidden tax. Read some older threads on the subject and you'll see that the fees were supposed to be cut in half last...

    Sterling Trader Pro

I've used Hyperfeed for FirstAlert and it was solid. The problems with Sterling started shortly after the merger with Van Buren last summer and got progresively worse to the point that I simply could not trade there any longer, because I never new when the quotes would freeze or just stop...

What kind of ways can your alerts interact with Esignal? I don't trade with a SLK firm, but have tried out your service and liked it. Beta testing Esignal now and may end up using it.

How many separate strategies/systems do you trade concurrently?

One of my goals when I started trading full time was to build a "play book" of different strategies. Like a little notebook that spells out a complete strategy in detail on each page. Because the market is always changing, you could always have something else to turn to when one stops working...
