    Canadian RSP bear funds

Are there any RRSP eligible bear funds? Preferably something that is basically an index fund that's 100% anti-correlated to some equity index, like the Ryddex funds. I've found short/long funds, but they are mostly hedging for lower volatility returns, and you still need to rely on the...

The best long term bearish bets

If you were bearish on the market 1-3 years from now and wanted to make some bets that didn't tie up a lot of capital and that you didn't have to monitor, what would you do? I'd like to discuss ideas on how to profit from this scenario. Put options dated for '04 or '05 seem like the logical...

    $400 Canadian Commissions!

IB is registered in most provinces now, but as far as I know they don't allow trading in Canadian equities, or RRSP accounts. Does anyone know if this is in the works for IB? I'd be there with all my retirement funds in a second.

eSignal 7.3 beta with popout windows - anyone tried it yet?

I thought the full release version of 7.3 was supposed to be out Friday (that's what a sales rep told me). Any date set yet?

Poll: How long is your longest flat period?

My guess is mostly choice 3. That's what I meant by smaller sized traders can control their risk tighter and should have shorter drawdowns. Plus they are putting their money to work in new trades much quicker, so (assuming they know how to trade) they can come back from drawdowns faster...

Poll: How long is your longest flat period?

Don't forget that the results you are quoting are from people running large amounts of money. They can't control their downside as tightly as smaller traders can. If bad news hits my position, I can be out in seconds. When you are in a million share position, you have to ride it out.

POLL: % of account risked on a single trade

What about extremely low risk/very high win rate systems? Some arbitrage strategies have a virtually 100% win rate if executed properly.

    Firms offering overnight leverage??

Which prop firms give you a hassle about holding overnights? I've only traded at two of them, but I've never had a problem with this. That's just lame. If you are a trader, you trade. If holding overnight can make you money, what does it say about a firm that won't let you? They are making...

    TD Waterhouse up for sale.

They just took a bath dumping the options firm they acquired right before they all fell off a cliff. There is a new ceo in the last year, sounds like he's busy undoing all the idiotic deals made during the good times that are coming back to bite them now. They are also one of the largest...

    Don's Openings, Part 6 2003

When you do find that strategy, the one with a sure fire way to limit losses, please post it here. (Hint- opening orders isn't it)

    Don's Openings, Part 6 2003

Opening orders is a strategy that still works, but it's not a gimme. If you walk in 5 minutes before the bell and just trade with no preparation, you are cruisin' for a bruisin' I've spent over a year trading them every single day and have come to specialize in the strategy, it's my bread...

POLL: Are you obsessed with trading?

Do you know the symbols to the whole S&P 500 from memory? I do, and I've never even studied them, I just can't help it. Our license plates here have 3 numbers followed by 3 letters and I'm constantly trying to remember the company name that matches the three letters.

Island is running trial pricing right now for listed stocks only. No rebate to add liquidity, 1/10th cent to take. Still .02 to add and .03 to take for nasdaq. http://www.island.com/prodserv/bd/fee/fee.asp

    Divident question

That's a lower risk option, since you have another leg to the trade to provide some extra income. But what about the instance where the market trends down and your long positions that yield 4-7% lose 20-30% of their value? Or news comes out on a stock and it gets cut in half? I like the...

    Divident question

Of course, but that's like saying has anyone bought a stock and had it open up a point the next day? If the dividend were 50 cents, and there were market factors that caused most stocks to open higher anyway, your stock could open up big too. Works in reverse also. No matter how you slice it...

    Dividend capture

My understanding is that if you are with a prop firm, all your income is treated as partnership income, since you are actually a partner in the firm. All that matters is the bottom line, not how you got there.

    Living Well

Income tax in Canada is generally higher than in the US, but not by an outrageous amount. In the top tax bracket you will pay 40 something percent. There are other things that bring it pretty close in line though. Our property taxes are lower and we have higher limits for tax free retirement...

    Living Well

I can only speak of my own experience. I live in Canada and trade US markets, so my income is earned in US dollars and is going to be the same whether I lived here or New York. My trading is going well and I'm earning an above average wage compared to most Americans. But because I gain an...

    Living Well

Traders have the best of both worlds since they can live anywhere and reap the local cost of living and other benefits (free healthcare, education, etc), yet they can trade US markets and earn an above average US salary in US dollars.
