Why is my speed test so slow?

Aside from speed testing you need to try ping and tracert. I'm near Philadelphia using 1.5 mbps DSL on interleave. ping gw1.ibllc.com takes 49 ms and tracert gw1.ibllc.com takes the same 49 ms over 9 hops. Try ping and tracert to your broker's server. You could be getting stuck or throttled...

    ES Journal Archive (2006 - 2008)

I like to read this journal for trading insights, not for ego trips and insults. Please take the worthless nonsense and bashing to another thread.

Best commissions for NQ & ES

If you are an active trader why are you using IB's bundled rate of $2.40 a side? For ES, NQ and ER2 unbundled starts at $2.35, drops to $2.15 afer 300 sides and $1.80 after 1000 sides. It is easy to find lower rates than IB. Velocity currently offers an all in rate of $1.99 a side with free...

how to protect your account from huge catastrophic events.

Long a stock and long a put option is the same position as just being long a call option. If you are that worried about risk maybe you shouldn't be speculating in the markets.

    scalping vs long term

The vast majority of the pros who are members of the CME, CBOT and NYMEX and trade their accounts don't make their money by long term investing.

    Er2

The CME fee waiver on the S&P MidCap 400 started on March 3, 2008 and continues through December 2008. What we need is exchange competition in all the other contracts to bring the fees down.

    IB data feed good enough?

IB's high frequency sampled data feed is fine for most retail traders. Traders that need a true tick feed have to go 3rd party.

    Block box trading

Why aren't you running the system in real time? A months worth of daily real time profitable results would be more convincing than any backtest. Do I understand correctly - daily profit of 6 points ($300) versus max drawdown of 60 points ($3K)? I know I don't have the stomach for that...

    Block box trading

Then why do so many systems that backtest well utterly fail in live trading? If you haven't run it live then you do not have reliable and verifiable results.

    Amp Futures or Mirus

If traders didn't care about saving a few cents to 50 cents or more per contract CME seats wouldn't sell for $1.1 million and IOM seats for $400K. Traders doing major volume have to care about the total fees charged per contract because it has a direct effect on the bottom line.

Puts on ES, should I cover?

When it comes to options you are supposed to ask questions first and do the trade second. More than one trader has been blown out by shorting S&P puts. If you are going to play the short index put game you need to understand that the only time to go short is after a significant multiday jump...

    Zillow - Real Estate Market

I haven't looked at Zillow in a well over a year because the prices I saw for NY/NJ/PA were all wrong. It looks like the pricing has gotten better, but there are still clear errors. One major error for my area (Philadelphia suburbs) is pricing colonials and split levels at the same price...

Dramatic Shift In Prem Below Fv

You plotted the pit S&P premium $SPINX, these days most traders look at the ES premium $ESINX.

Looking for a good retail firm

No brokerage firms are FDIC insured. Schwab and Fidelity are solid firms for intermediate term traders and buy and hold types. If you have a sizeable account it would be worthwhile to use Interactive Brokers and pay the minimum $10 monthly fee for inactive months.
