    PNSN Penson Thread Deleted

My thread on PNSN in the Stocks forum was deleted by a moderator because the price is under $5.00 and thus considered a penny stock. Before yesterday's collapse PNSN was a $5.00 stock. The obvious point that the moderator is missing is that PNSN Penson is a major clearing firm for both...

    Price Action Explanation wanted

You are doing exactly what I said you were doing - you are mixing up the March and June contracts. There was no gap down on 02/20. You have March contract data through 02/18 and June contract data starting 02/20. Take a look at the June contract at any futures charting website. The June...

    Price Action Explanation wanted

Look at a chart. The price went up on Feb 20, 2011 not down. Are you mixing up the March and the June contracts?

Pros and Cons: LLC vs S-Corp

Your information about exchange members is wrong. Capital gains are subject to FICA taxes for members of futures and options exchanges. Exchange members have no choice in the matter. Read the IRS code and relevant forms and instructions (Form 6781 and Schedule SE of Form 1040). Section 1256...

Is it too late to qualify for 60/40 taxes??

This isn't rocket science. Section 1256 contracts are reported on Form 6781 and lines 8 and 9 of Form 6781 are reported on Schedule D. Anything else is flat out wrong. Just look at Form 6781 and read the instructions. http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f6781.pdf A 1 page form and not...

Is it too late to qualify for 60/40 taxes??

How were your futures trades reported? If they were not reported on Form 6781 then your tax return is wrong, wrong, wrong. Section 1256 is Federal tax code only. I don't know of any states that give special tax treatment for Federal Section 1256 contracts.

ES TRADERS: Interested In Tick Size Change?

The problem with the ES is the $50 multiplier. Note that the ES options trade in 0.05 ($2.50) ticks. What we really need is an electronic S&P 500 contract with a $500 multiplier and a 0.01 ($5) tick. Plenty of tick noise and commission efficient.

Is it too late to qualify for 60/40 taxes??

You have won the contest for the wackiest question ever at ET. You either traded Section 1256 contracts or you didn't. Only Section 1256 contracts qualify for 60/40 tax treatment. If you did trade Section 1256 contracts you must report them on Form 6781. Maybe you should just hire a CPA...

    $5,000 a day/shift to radioactive jumpers

"jumpers" sounds too neat, clean and tidy. In the nuke leak cleanup business they are known as "glow boys". Not a good career choice.

    ES Futures lower than SPX

I read just fine, you are the one that needs to learn how to read. The sentence "Usually, the futures always trades ahead or higher of the SPX." contains the word "always" along with the word "usually". As stated, this is nonsense. You must trade different S&P futures than the rest of the...

friday's exp on the e-minis options

Why don't you read the ES option contract specifications at the CMEGroup website? It clearly states: Last Trade Date/Time QUARTERLY: 8:30 a.m. / 3rd Friday of the contract month SERIAL: 3:15 p.m. / 3rd Friday of the contract month Time is CST/CDT.

SPY buy and hold return controversy

The SPY ETF has a performance data sheet. The SPY performance data sheet states that the SPY started on January 22, 1993 and that the annualized performance of the S&P 500 index since inception is 8.24%. The 10 year annualized performance of the S&P 500 index is only 1.30%. The data...

    Don Miller Trading after dark.

Very interesting how the same misinformation about Don Miller's trading gets repeated over and over again when the actual information is posted in his blog. In 2008 Don Miller had a net profit of $1,635,103 trading 586,184 sides (293,092 RTs). The net profit per RT was $5.58 or less than one...
