New guys, now is not the time

Here's a few stocks I traded Thurs/Fri. After the initial morning move it was garbage trading.

New guys, now is not the time

I haven't been around for 12 years without adapting once or twice :) The point of this thread wasn't to say I can't make it in this market, I'm doing fine. Yes, the dreaded flat line is everywhere. Gap and chop.

New guys, now is not the time

Yes this is my only income since 1998. I do some longer term trades in my retirement accounts but can't say I have much of a nack for it.

New guys, now is not the time

That's the beauty of this j*b..."hanging in there" means being at home with loved ones, not answering to anyone, and still making more than any of your peers.

New guys, now is not the time

That's a good attitude, keep grinding with the low risk plays to give yourself the chance to trade during better times.

New guys, now is not the time

I agree completely with you. My point to the thread was letting the newer guys know that this market is the worst we have seen in the past few years. It's tough out there if you aren't already really good at what you do. I have no doubt that if I entered this market for the first time there's...

We get it, you make money on ES. Congrats, you are one of the few. For myself or just about anyone else on the site it's a losing proposition.

    I have no edge there.

You are looking at the indexes. I trade stocks which have been in a low volume, low volatility mode for some time now. I trade any stocks that are volatile each day. Breakouts, reversions, news etc.

New guys, now is not the time

Yep I feel your pain. 4 days out of 5 are a waste of time. I will still make more this year than I could make doing anything else, but it feels like very little for so much effort.

New guys, now is not the time

I agree this week had more activity due to the market finally declining a bit. I prefer down markets to up markets by a landslide. I disagree that these events are extremes. You had opportunities in '97 (Asia), '98 (LTCM), '99-'02 (bubble w/ pop), '07-'09 (crisis). I am eagerly awaiting the...

New guys, now is not the time

There haven't been many opportunities on either side of that coin lately. I scan the whole market all day for either setup and can't even populate half of my charts with possible trades.

New guys, now is not the time

After yet another dull open I got to thinking about how hard this market would be if I was just starting out. You guys that are not profitable, whether it's been 2 months or 2 years, need to know that right now is a time for defensive trading. This market offers very few opportunities...

How can I ask a shill to see statement?

Regarding trading services, nobody should ever ever ever ever ever ever (insert 53 more ever's) pay more than a few hundred per month. If someone is asking for a one time large payment you should run the other way. add: If the trainer offers some proof of results a higher monthly fee could...

WSJ today: Democrats Weigh Tax on Financial Transactions

Do the math, it would kill intraday trading for all of us.

    Do you "bid whack"?

Scraff your first post makes sense, they need reading comprehension classes.

Is High Freq Trading a Bubble?

Your mistake is defending the individual investor in the first place. The market doesn't exist for them, although it's always been marketed that way. If they want to play in these waters, they accept the risk, and the fact that they are the patsy at the table. That doesn't give them the...

Questions about Echo Trade (and prop trading in general)

In my opinion do the opposite of everything in this post. Find the lowest fees possible or you won't survive the learning curve. $10 rt's is WAY more than you should be paying. Echotrade is a good firm, they shouldn't be thought of as a bucket shop (and no, I don't currently trade there).
