Bitcoin is too volatile to be taken seriously

I give up.... Now you introduce "Security-properties" in our discussion.... While Bitcoin is a Currency (like the Euro) and a Commodity (like Gold) and a payment-Protocol (like HTTP). There is nothing Security-like present. Valuation is done by valuing the 3 properties above. But...

Bitcoin is too volatile to be taken seriously

You may don't like this guy, I think he explains it much better than I can (and this with that same Wiki-link you are pointing to....) His first argument, is about the Bitcoin-protocol (nobody owns it). So there is not ONE central Ponzi-guy on the top of the scheme who can scam every one...

Bitcoin is too volatile to be taken seriously

Stopping users from buying an Apple IPone, doesn't make Apple a Ponzi scheme....Apple will just fail as business model, as will be the case with Bitcoin when something better emerges. Here a good explanation, why the word "Ponzi" isn't applied to Bitcoin...

Bitcoin is too volatile to be taken seriously

Alt-coins will fill-in other niches. -government actions, bans They will TAX virtual-currencies, so have incentives to keep them -usability decreases (in a non-electronic world, it is useless) There is a large non-Banked world (2 billion people don't have a bank-account, but are using...

bitcoin bubble getting out of control...surging non stop. up over $600 now

Yes indeed....I do that as well with my other 99% :) (but I have to admit it's a lot more work, stress, and emotion).

bitcoin bubble getting out of control...surging non stop. up over $600 now

I know, sarcasm is your trade-mark. But deep inside you know: On 1-Jan-2013: Had you invested only 0.6% of your fortune in Bitcoins (and left the other 99,4% on your bank account), you would still have beaten the 23% risen S&P index today (this calculated with the current price of 500 USD...

bitcoin bubble getting out of control...surging non stop. up over $600 now

Man..oh..man... Reading 9 pages of this thread, it's so clear that the "negative posters" don't understand what Bitcoin actually is. ...and this is the only reason why its price is still not 10.000 dollars or more...(because when every one would understand it, they should value it on its...

Is cash no longer fully insured in an IB account ?

Well, I'm not sure... as on the page in Account-management, where you get the option to chose your Sweep-methode, the following text is printed: You can interpret this, as if the benefit of selecting CFTC is "segregation" as opposit to the other option.

Is cash no longer fully insured in an IB account ?

That's not an option anyway, as the trader in my original question wants to be a pure-daytrader (no position what so ever during overnight or weekends). He wants to be 100% cash... But where to sweep his cash, if he only trades Futures during RTH ?

Is cash no longer fully insured in an IB account ?

What should the following trader chose best? A) sweep excess funds into Security account (SEC, SIPC rules) B) sweep excess funds into Commodities account (CFTC rules) Provided that he is a pure DayTrader (no holdings overnight), and trading 95% futures and seldom stocks or FX. Reading...

Which front-end for IB book trader functionality?

That is not-correct (sorry FGBL07). There is a feature setting by which you can indeed click your Limit Order above the current market-price (your Order will stay a Limit, and it will execute immediatly on that price or lower). Email ButtonTrader support, for the settting you need.

    Taking 10K to 5M in 8 Years

Every one on this board can make a profit of ONLY 0.39 % per day (especially with high leveraged Futures or Options). But to do this continuesly for 1600 trading-days in one row (which will take 10k to 5m in 8 years, no taxes)......is....well.....impossible.

    SEC may abolish stop-loss orders

I don't understand the fuss in this thread at all..... Just emulate/simulate your Stop-order with a StopLimit-order. And set the Limit-price of this StopLimit-order as far away as you like it to be: 10 ticks, 100 or even 1000 (if that is the price you really want to sell). Then you will get...

Latency problem from Europe to USA

No...but you can check your Ini-file in the TWS-directory (trace the Peer). But even then. You will be re-directed after the Server-connection without knowing where to. Anyway: if you haven't done anything special, at the moment you opened your IB-account, then you will be on the Server in...

Latency problem from Europe to USA

Looks to me some kind of buffering in the software, during a thread-lock (database-locked for processing the Order). Then after the thread is done, it unlocks and the buffer is released at full speed. In other words: a software issue (not caused by communication-latecy).

Latency problem from Europe to USA

Sadly not... For what I know: Connecting TWS to another Server, will log you in, but will re-direct your trading-IP to the Server where your account is situated (trading is validated against your Account-server). Maybe (I don't know for sure) the extended-login Server will manage other...
