    IB's BEST market orders

I actually don't know how it is supposed to work. I just know that when I used BEST on AMAT and a couple of other large cap NASDAQ stocks I got terrible fills (see posts above). No such issues with best_ecn. So I'm just going to stick with best_ecn. I usually get filled on ISLD or ARCA, which is...

    IB Stop, reliable??

Generally, IB stops have been reliable for me. For the QQQ and SPY you could consider setting the stop on the NYSE. That way you avoid all the "way-out" ECN quotes that happens on QQQ on occation.

    IB's BEST market orders

best_ecn market orders are filled immediately, ie sub 2 secs in my case yesterday (they were all shorts) best market orders do not fill as fast, as they can get stuck at supersoes waiting for an ECN to move off best bid/ask.

    IB's BEST market orders

traded several large cap nasdaq stocks with market orders using best_ecn. Got fills as expected. So I'll just stay with best_ecn for now

software looks good. Their fees are just plain ridiculous ... ticket charges and everything. Go to one of their open houses and see for yourself

    Is IB's 1099 for 2001 wrong?

I use Quicken to keep track of all trades. With IB it's as simple as downloading you transaction file once a day. I also track everything in Excel. That's how I monitor fills vs system prices etc. I haven't found any software that will allow me to track slippage etc. all of which is important...

IB DDE link freezes after 20 minutes

Glad to hear that. I would never trade on anything other than Win2000 and maybe WinXP after the first service patch is out.

    IB Transition Help please

I use eSignal and TWS. I have my own charting so I cannot give you any recommendations on that. Current eSignal charts are terrible, but the upcoming new software have lots of nice improvments. Do a search for eSignal and read the threads

    IB's BEST market orders

version77, Robbery, that's what it feels like. I naively thought that supersoes combined with best would work as well as NYSE. Obviously not. Since I had just added nasdaq I believe the order was for 200 shares or something really small.

    IB's BEST market orders

Wonderduck, for me it's a matter of being practical (or at least trying to). My system generates portfolio orders, often between 5 to 10 at a time. It's simply difficult (at least for me) to enter limits on 10 stocks and try manage getting in or out. At the NYSE market orders virtually always...

    IB's BEST market orders

I've had very poor experience with IB best routing on nasdaq. On tusday or wednesday i routed a best market order for AMAT. I got filled 15 cents away from best bid/ask at the time I place the order. That' s just not right. I'll probably stop using best and revert to limits for nasdaq.

IB's order handling dangerously screwed up since last Thursday

From personal experience, I can say that CyberCorp covered losses I had that could be attributed to system failure.

    Blown stops

depending on what software you use, it's called ATR, "average true range", "true range" or something like that. Worst case you can do a moving average of (high-low) over the last 10 bars, since that's pretty close too. ATR is just a moving average of the high minus low of the bar with gaps...

    Blown stops

flea, stops should be based on the statistical behavior of the stock you trade. Often we put stops e.g. 5 cents under a recent low. These tend to be taken out. How about just using 3*ATR(10) off of the low of the entry bar for longs. That's likely a good point where you don't get shaken out...

Riding your winners and number of positions

lelandC, I have found it very difficult not to get emotionally involved in my positions. I have begun minimizing my account manager, so that I cannot see how much money I've made or lost. I just take the signals and try not to focus on the money. Still, I've left more money on the table...

that mirrors my experience. Thanks for your help Def ... again you're the only one that truly helped. I hope IB is treating you well !

IB Stops not going "dark blue"

finally got a response from support. The support guy/girl doesn't even know his own product. Here is the response I got. "light blue means that we are holding the order within our system until the price has been triggered by the market". He then dismissed my report. What incompetence...

IB Stops not going "dark blue"

hi def, this is unfortunately one of the bugs that is very difficult to replicate. How do you "prove", other than through a screen shot, that an order isn't going live. The system doesn't create any logs that I'm aware of that lets me verify what state it thinks the orders are in. Maybe...
