BARRON'S: Barron's Mailbag: Bring Back Fractions

not that it really matters, but I would prefer maybe 5 cent increments. One of the reasons ES/NQ are so much easier to trade is that there is liquidity at the price levels. That's pretty much history in stocks these days.

    Highly selective trading

I suspect that's more difficult than it sounds. Those types of extreme events are also very risky. The markets can stay irrational much longer than I can afford to wait or hang on. These things always look easier after the fact. Few have the courage to buy e.g. ES at 7 this morning when there...

    IB or Tradestation

IF you don't already have a quote and chart provider you like, why not give TradeStation a try. TS6 is really a pretty nice piece of software. That being said, I use IB and really like their executions and commissions. I have no need for fancy charting, and have generally found that complex...

    problems with esignal again

Don't know if this truly is a bug, but NQ #F didn't roll to the september contract until sometime in the middle of the trading day. ES #F rolled to the september contract at the beginning of the day, which is what I would expect. Having a 6 pt NQ jump in the middle of trading can be very...

    Jtrader/XP errors

only other guess I have is that XP does not come with Java, and JTrader is probably java based, given it's name. you'll have to install Java from java.sun.com yourself.

    Globex limit book

I agree with that. After testing a bit more, I'm happy with the 5 levels IB provides. It seems like enough info and actually updates fast enough for my style

    IB is fast today

Yes, it's blindingly fast. I have come to believe that most delays are due to my ISP connectivity and not IB. Today, for instance, my globex limits actually showed up blue for a fraction of a second before going green. Yesterday, they went green so fast that I never got to see the blue. But...

    Gordon Gekko syndrome

I think that's a brilliant approach. Once you have achieved your daily target, you allow only a drawdown of half of your gains. Then you stop.

New Yahoo IB TWS API Board

thank you. That's a great idea. I just joined.

    Globex limit book

Thank you very much for all the good info. I do use IB's market depth, it just updates fairly slowly (or so it seems at least). Now that I know it's available, I'll know what questions to ask. thanks again!

    Globex limit book

Is there some way to get access to the Globex Limit book? I use eSignal and haven't found anything but T&S. Maybe it requires a globex terminal? Thanks in advance !

    ISE 2 year anniversary

Agreed. I've had better luck with ISE on my QQQ options than anywhere else. I avoid AMEX ... they are simply not honest (imho)

What are your favorite Wall Street/stock related movies?

somewhat related: barbarians at the gates. The true story of the nabisco LBO in the lat 80s. Very funny.

    Financial Fiction (books)

Like many here I'm thinking trading 24x7. I thought I share some of the fiction I've found with financial/trading content. Best author by far is Stephen Frey. Great novels with lots of finance, trading and action. I've read "The Insider", "Take over" and "trust fund". All excellent (and in...

    Daytrading profit potential

Don't really know about pro shops, but the top guys with 10M plus under management with 5+ years of trackrecord do about 100% on base capital. You can always multiply by whatever leverage factor you get at the pro shop.

    Optimatization (whens enough)

another way to look at it, is to determine how many parameters you realistically can have. If you only have one time series (e.g. price), you really shouldn't optimize more than one variable. Two is probably ok, but you have to be careful. To restate: your system probably should not have more...
