    Trade The Markets .com ????

Victor, I could have been clearer, so let me try again: The book has very good chapters on market internals. Some of the very best descriptions I've seen. Also very good info on how to build a trading plan and what it takes to succeed. The systems presented, do not test out well on their...

    Trade The Markets .com ????

I went to the Carter and Huberts paid seminar at the most recent las vegas expo (~$150). All in all I would say that the book is MUCH better than the class they put on. I like the book, but also suggest that you back-test their ideas. Very little in the book holds up under backtest. That being...

    IB Security Alert EMail

If you absolutely must share your trading somputer with general internet stuff (browsing and email), I suggest you run all net-activities in independent VMs. You can then simply delete the VMs from time to time and you'll be just fine.

Would you quit after you have made $1Mil?

Ofcourse not. Here in california 1M barely buys you a house! 1M/year, THAT's a good goal (not that I'm there yet).

    Stats on Bright Trading

I think it's pretty simple: most people fail at trading because they are unwilling to put in the large amount of time it generally takes to consistently make money. I doubt Bright's training has much effect either way, as the vast majority fail independent of training. I'd be truly...

TradersExpo Las Vegas... Is it worth it?

I go primarily to meet my friends but also to visit the show floor for entertainment and good ideas.

Holy Grail Strategy (knowledge vs. opinion)

More specifically (imo): You do not need for every individual security to make money. As long as the test across ALL securities makes money with good statistics you have something tradable. Re time periods: I would not expect the same rules to work EOD as on for instance 1 min bars. If...

Holy Grail Strategy (knowledge vs. opinion)

The "Holy Grail" in my opinion is the following: trade many strategies with small positions over many stocks. Each strategy should be simple with few "variables" and be universal across all stocks. Must also (not surprisingly) have positive expectancy.

How to avoid drawdown when you increase your position size?

First my general advice: I suggest you honestly identify the max DD you can "handle" at present. Let's say the $10k. Then size so that you're expected maxDD is $10k. That's how i start all my new systems. Then depending on how much return you see, you should increase or decrease position...

    Ib Api

I'm not sure i agree with the answer above. I use Java, and there everything in async: meaning that the methods get called entirely at the discretion of TWS and I have to deal with the events whatever order they come.

Is there a broker comparable to IB?

IB is the best broker I've been with. Their technology is very good, data feed good, free API, excellent margin/cash rates, and decent commissions. The handful of issues I've had over the last 5 years have been addressed with customer support without any problems. BUT: if you expect a lot...

    Did IB change something today?

TWS has been running fine all morning here. BTW: I've found itunes to do strange things to the computer it's running on. It interferes with networking in my experience. Ditto for VMWare Workstation licensing subsystem (checks license every few minutes even if the vm is not running, which...

    Back Testing Survivor Bias

The only "answer" i know is to build some sort of de-activation into the system, so that it'll stop trading if some level of statical significance isn't being met. That way you'd at least avoid continuing to trade stocks/systems that have fallen apart.

How much are your trading mistakes costing you?

I'm almost exclusively on auto, so I track actual fills vs simulation after the close. It's the only way to determine actual slip, fill rate etc.
