The stricter the gun laws, the safer the children

This is the point I think a lot of people don't understand. 80% of gun homicides are gang related. Less than 20% of guns used in crimes are obtained legally, and most sources show that less than 10% of guns used in homicides are obtained legally. I'm not against things like background checks &...

The stricter the gun laws, the safer the children

8% of the nation's population are convicted felons. Based off your statistics, 7.7% of illegal firearm possession convictions are committed by felons. So felons carry firearms illegally at about the same rate as the regular population. I'm kind of surprised the rate isn't higher, but then again...

What would you tell your 18 year old self about trading/investments?

When I was 18, I assumed that all trading was algorithmic. I thought you were wasting your time attempting to trade unless you were buying & holding index or mutual funds. I invested in mutual funds for over a decade before really discovering the stock market. If could go back and give myself...

Trying to consolidate charts, scanner, paper trading, etc.

Platform: I'm not sure you'll find a better platform for paper trading than Das Trader Pro. They're expensive, but you have to pay for live L2 data, even if you're just paper trading. Sometimes a broker will allow you to set up a secondary paper trading account with live data if you fund an...

The stricter the gun laws, the safer the children

If you look at the supplemental material from the article, you'll see that there are 8 states that require a UBC for firearm purchases, 3 states with a UBC for ammunition purchases, and 1 state with an existing firearm identification requirement. Connecticut, Illinois, & Massachusetts are the...

The stricter the gun laws, the safer the children

Thanks for the link. That article wasn't listed under the link that CNN provided, and it doesn't come up if you search the word "firearm" and search for articles posted in July. How did you find it?

The stricter the gun laws, the safer the children

It sounds like an interesting study. Too bad it doesn't seem to exist. The CNN article says it was published this past Monday by Pediatrics, but none of their articles from July seem to contain this information. I wonder if it got taken down due to misinformation.

    marginable stocks

That's true. What I meant was that you're typically allowed to short non-marginable stocks assuming your broker has access to the shares. Most brokers won't let you short stocks on the threshold list though.

    marginable stocks

Non-marginable stocks are typically shortable. Whether or not a security is non-marginable is determined by whether or not you can use margin (leverage) to purchase it. At least that's my understanding of the terminology. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Which chest exercise do you think is better: bench press or chest dips?

I always preferred bench press because you could adjust the angle to hit different areas of the chest muscle. Incline for upper chest, flat for middle chest, and decline for lower chest. Plus I liked the ability to easily change weight to do drop sets. I always liked dips for triceps.

Noncompliance Kneecaps New Zealand's Gun Control Scheme

Gang violence skews the way others view our country. I've heard people from other countries say that they're afraid to travel to the U.S. because of all the gun violence here. They don't understand that the vast majority of our gun violence happens in the inner cities, and the rest of our...

Trump Wins...Again. Stock Market At All Time Highs

I was watching CNBC a few weeks ago, and one of the commentators said something really interesting. Over half of the democratic base is over the age of 50, and they identify as either moderate or conservative. Democrats are putting themselves in real danger of losing the election if a far left...

    Critique my strategy

Have you considered whether or not it's wise to use leverage for your active trading? The S&P 500 averages just under 10% a year. So if you're paying 5.5% per year in interest, you aren't really gaining that much by using leverage. You are however exposing yourself to amplified losses in the...

The Stock Market Works by Day, but It Loves the Night

This is really interesting. Your backtesting seems to show the exact opposite results of what the article claims. So in basic theory, the inverse operation should be successful. You should be able to see large gains by buying at the open and selling at the close everyday. Did you use regular...

Noncompliance Kneecaps New Zealand's Gun Control Scheme

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate I wasn't just talking about gun homicide rates, I was talking about overall homicide rates. Our overall homicide rate is about 3X higher than Canada's, 4X higher than England's, 8X higher than China's, etc. The reason...

Noncompliance Kneecaps New Zealand's Gun Control Scheme

I'm not sure about overall crime rates, but homicide rates are definitely lower in countries without guns. That being said, 80% of gun related homicides are gang related. So the U.S. is actually one the safest countries in the world if you avoid the inner city areas of places like Chicago &...
