This time, but sometimes it's different. To make big money, you need to catch a major trend. They do not always start in the morning or in the afternoon, sometimes they start around 12:25 EST, during the lunch time. That was my point.

    Looking for inexpensive charting software

Ensign for Windows is good for studying (I mean the Internet version with delayed quotes), and it's only $40 a month, but SierraChart may suit you better. wally_

The exact count is: 9+9+18.5=36.5. As far as systems are concerned, I will see how to handle requests like that :D in future. I am still testing them and have been trading them only since November 1st. So far up some 80+30+20 pts on one contract, one for each system. They had a very good...

And that's precisely one of those biases. The money is not made in the morning or in the afternoon, but in the market. Today a lot of it could have been made just between the morning and the afternoon. Reversals frequently start during the dull market hours. Another thing: don't expect...

Thanks, small correction though: 36.5 pts. Used to be better at adding :D . wally_

That's why it helps to combine discretionary trading with system trading. When you trade systems, you have no biases, you just need to follow your system. Good day for my systems, though: 38.5 ES pts with 3 contracts, the best day ever! Looks like I got the right systems to play with.

One of those signals was also on October 10th !!! I am saying this in retrospect because I was not trading these systems then, but it does look that when combined together they give you a big predictive power. Well, we hit 918. I am waiting for my MOC sell order to be filled.

Well, I am out with 18 pts already so I guess I can afford to gamble now. My gamble is: we will move past it, so that I can add another 15 pts  . OK, that's kinda wishful thinking, but one thing I noticed it is that when my systems give strong unequivocal signals you should excpect a...

This is not exactly what I meant. It was only an example. Another example was given by me in the thread 'The importance of simplicity' where I mentioned that I would go long at 895.5 today in the morning. One of the reasons to do it was that two of the three mechanical systems that I use were...

    The Importance of Simplicity

Forgot to add that it would be a long entry. I trust my systems :) I don't know where I would exit and that's one of the reasons why trading mechanical systems is easier. They give you clear entry and exit rules. But I guess I would try to get at least 6 pts and there were some good reasons to...

OK, no-one quoted me, so I have to do it myself. I was right, we had quite a breakout through the resistance at 905 and we ended up breaking even through R2. It's a very good day for my systems, they were signalling this breakout to the upside yesterday and that's why I was...

    The Importance of Simplicity

anticipatory the first 30 min breakout entry today would be @895.5 about 9:50 AM EST. I had some reasons to do it, something that I already mentioned in this thread among other things. However, as you know I trade systems, pretty mechanical and simple, so I did not enter. However, all my...

Or you could let the system do its job and trade in a discretionary way only to improve its performance when you think you can do it. For example, your system tells you to go long and you do so, but soon find yourself in a situation that you are temporarily down, say 6 pts, and your stop-loss is...

    The Importance of Simplicity

but did not find anything to inspire me, and that's probably good because I have enough of my own stuff to chew on and not enough time to do everything. Anyway, there is another thread that you guys might want to check out because it deals with the first 30 min breakout and other simple...

    The Importance of Simplicity

I saw your chart. I would short by the green trendline on the upswing if it reached 61.8% FR and if I had some reasons to believe that the swing is weakening (for instance, a stochastics divergence in a smaller time frame). That would give me some extra points if it went my way, but it would...

    The Importance of Simplicity

If you mean 11/11/02, then yes, you could have traded it successfully on a pullback (61.8% FR), along with many other days where this pattern occured (see my other post with such days in November listed).

    The Importance of Simplicity

OK Natalie, sorry, but did not check this thread out for many days, so I am responding only now. I recommend both Sperandeo's books, but there is some overlap between them so you may want to choose one or the other. Check them out from your local library, or from Amazon.com. I also...

No problem, that's what this board is about. Pretty much so, but you have to be careful here, because oversold/overbought levels can become even more oversold/overbought, so it's even better to use divergences of these indicators on BBs or their failure to reach BBs or both TICK and TRIN and...

    The Importance of Simplicity

Great, I think checking through October would be enough to get a better idea how well it works. Where is the chart? Any problems with that? I had some too, that's why I am asking. Using smaller bars is a necessity, of course. I use 3 min bars, along with bigger ones (7-8 min) to see the...
