    Hold Brothers Graybox

I was just looking at them too. I'm planning on opening an account with them soon, so I can update in a week or so. Yes, it looks like there is a hotkey for every possbile execution. But it looks like you can place orders with your mouse also. I've never been comfortable with the idea of having...

    How fast is ARCA?

Actually I have level 2 software. I typically use IB after hours. I'm just trying to figure out if IB has some kind of delay with ARCA, or maybe if the trade is getting reported on my system late. With ISLD or REDI, the trade goes through and is reflected almost instantaneously. But I know that...

    Trend Following

I hear a lot of daytraders talk about support/resistance, breakouts, oscillators, etc. But no one ever seems to discuss trend following. Does anyone out there look for stocks that are moving in a definite direction, jump on board, hoping to ride the momentum for a while? Or is the market just...

    Intraday Price History

Whoa! Just checked out the pricing. $18 per year per stock. Yikes!

    Intraday Price History

Saw this in May Active Trader magazine. Not sure if you can use this for backtesting, but here it is: Tick Data Inc recently released its database of intraday price and volume history on individual US equities. The database contains one-minute price and volume data on the largest 1,000...

    Anyone following Waxie (Trendfund)?

Dustin Was he making all that money because he was heavily short the market, or was he making bucks on daytrades also?

    Anyone following Waxie (Trendfund)?

PKJR I get Waxie's free email alerts. From the sound of it, almost every trade is a big winner. Does he have a bunch of losers that he never comments on? If this is the case, it would seem to me that his regular subscribers would get tired of him bragging all the time when he's not all that...

    newbie-to-be Scalping question

For the most part, daytraders have 2:1 margin. There are some firms which allow you to trade with the firms' captital, where you might get up to 10:1 margin. But there are only a handful of those, and I think you have to have a Series 7 license, so in all likelihood you'll have 2:1 margin...

    How fast is ARCA?

Just to test it out, I bought 100 shares through ARCA when the inside ask was REDI, then sold when the inside ask was INCA. In both cases, it took about 5 seconds. Why would it take this long? I am using IB; I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

    How fast is ARCA?

To those of you who have more experience trading with ARCA...let me give a hypothetical trading scenario. Let's say I want to buy 1000 shares, and at the inside ask there are a total of 1000 shares available through various ECNs (but no market makers) I realize that if I place a trade through...

Keeping up to date with trades for taxes ?

I'm pretty sure that once you elect mark-to-market you don't have to report all your trades. You simply figure your profit/loss based on the difference between your brokerage balances at the start and end of the year, adjusted of course for things like interest, deposits, withdrawals, etc.

    Trading advice needed

kevink From what I understand, Farrell's strategy of scalping NYSE stocks is obsolete with decimilization now in place. There was a guy on this forum doing it, but he says he's unable to anymore.

FYI, Traders Library is having a clearance book sale from 3/30 to 4/2. I've gotten some pretty good deals from their past sales. Here's the link: http://www.traderslibrary.com/cgi-bin/redirector.cgi?ID=85

a potential blow to options trading

How do individual traders act as market makers? I thought that we always had to pay the spread when trading options.

I clicked on the link, and it came up in Chinese or something. Can someone give me the gist?

    IB's New Java Platform

My undersatnding is that if you elect marked to market accounting, you don't need to document all your trades. You just take the difference between your balances at the beginning of the year vs end of the year, and the difference is your profit (loss).

    Disadvantages electing Mark to Market?

Someone tell me if I'm wrong, but this is what occurred to me. If you elect M-M, your federal tax rate could be as high as 39%, if you earn enough money. (A few hundred thousand, I believe.) If you don't file M-M you would pay a flat 28% rate for capital gains. That's an 11% difference you pay...
