BREAKING NEWS: First the triangle broke, now the support broke

Why on earth would I be getting a margin call? I raised plenty of cash to put to work the past 3 months. Raised more this morning when I sold all my triple-leveraged bear ETFs at nice profits. I would hope that you could add more to the ET conversation than this...

BREAKING NEWS: First the triangle broke, now the support broke

Hi Baron. Thanks for founding this site. The triangle that started September 7 in the S&P has been a subject of frequent conversation in the financial media. Didn't know I needed to prove it on ET, of all places? Simply pull up the S&P 3-month chart and you'll see it clearly. Thanks...

BREAKING NEWS: First the triangle broke, now the support broke

Exciting times if you were waiting for a correction. The sharp move that was to come after the 5 week triangle has confirmed to the downside, and now it appears that the chance for a short-term double-bottom broke, as we are below that level fairly solidly. The markets can move VERY quickly...

Big day for tech analysis...Triangle broken!

We're clearly out of the triangle to the downside.

I believe you meant it's hard "not" to notice the triangle?

Why did DUST calls fall despite the price increase of DUST?

Having traded DUST options, these options are known to be volatile. But to answer your question, time decay is a major factor, and a logical explanation. Also, if the market continues down, gold will likely go up, which is also a major factor. But if you're looking at this Friday's expiration...

Big day for tech analysis...Triangle broken!

Hello all. Been following this triangle for about 2 weeks now. The perfect triangle began September 7 and broke this morning. We all knew that it would end very soon, with a major breakout to the upside or downside. Well, it's confirmed to the downside. So the next important thing to place...

Nope. I have an order in to add in the after-hours session. I won't lose on this trade. But, yes, I'm down on it a whisker. Excellent job on your part...both times!

Indeed. Sold a lot of index OTM put options when the Dow dipped below 18000. Will sell more as we move below that level. Also sold OTM call options at the record highs. That is my game.

Still long SQQQ. Can't see it ever going below my cost before I sell it (which will be in less than 1 month).

I feel for you. Was there myself in my early days of trading. While you were digging deeply into the markets, I pounded the SQQQ. That's the triple leveraged Nasdaq bear ETF. When you're trading as long as I've been, you get tired of being bit, and eventually you start to notice patterns in...

OF COURSE! It's been a 7+ year bull market!! You said 10% CORRECTION. I'll note that there are some who believe, and justifiably so, that the new bull market actually began 10/4/11. The S&P went into bear territory that day. As far as I'm concerned, it counts. It's not as though it didn't...

Thanks for making the points. "Expecting the unexpected" is entrenched in my trading philosophy. So much so that I have to now tweak that into "expect what no one else expects". In other words, I don't follow the herd. This has worked well for me, as I was able to quit my job and become a...

True. I want to buy DIA at Dow 10,000. That ship won't sail ever again, unless something catastrophic happens very soon. I've also watched individual stocks quadruple after my limit order missed by a penny. So that point I definitely see.

It could "realistically double" before a 10% correction? Realistically, that's not realistic. In fact, put me on record as guaranteeing that will not happen.

OK. So you're saying that the sample size for the fact that September is historically the market's worst month is not large enough to warrant consideration. You would lean toward it being not much more than a statistical oddity. Again, I disagree. I submit to you that the demand for stock...

I have always considered this comparison, and I do think the S&P 500 is immune from what the Nikkei experienced. The reason is that we're talking about U.S companies and the U.S economy. Warren Buffett always says invest in U.S. businesses with confidence. When he says that, I believe him.

The rest of your post was sensible, in that the natural long-term trend of the market is up. But I will heartily dispute the above comment. The market ALWAYS corrects. That's what makes it efficient. Also, we were discussing the market...not an individual stock. If you have all the right reasons...
