All the Fed needs to do is lower rates by 1.25% to save housing

I think he's saying that as prices decline the Fed will find reason to ease, and I guess that means if they only lower it 1/2%, we'll be looking at a 10 or 15% decline. That was the way I read his chart, anyway. Right now, they aren't going to admit they will need to ease. It would scare...

All the Fed needs to do is lower rates by 1.25% to save housing

That's the basic gist of the article. This guy usually isn't "grim". You need to go to the link to see the charts http://www.pimco.com/LeftNav/Featured+Market+Commentary/IO/2007/IO+April+2007.htm ....big snip.... The problem with housing, however, is not the frequently heralded...

    Fair Value

What about a 10% fall by the end of the year? What would the odds on that be? I think these values are all relative to each other, ie, stocks vs bonds, and CD's, and in turn they are all relative to the shifting sand of the dollar. So if the dollar sinks considerably, will stocks appear...

Pretty good setup, IMO, if you don't need the money quickly.

    A Daytraders Fate

It sounds like you really want to trade for a living, and since you don't have much of a stake, I'd suggest reducing living expenses to a bare minimum till you get up to about $250k or $500k. The other thing I think you should spend some time on is determining a safe position size and stop...

What do you do with your non trading $$$?

I trade it all. All the way to the point of selling my M-Roadster and doing 0% credit card transfers to buy shares last year. It was all in one stock, too. I'm still here, aren't I? PS: If you meant otherwise, like when I sell, the money goes to a Treasuries Money Market account...

Do u trade below 1 billion cap stocks?

No. I know, its Duey, Cheatem and Howe over there, but that's life, and not a problem if you pick well and time well. And to be honest the fills are better than the Nasdaq stuff I've traded. Its barbary pirates over there, IMO. I avoid 4 letter stocks like the bubonic plague.

china tariffs: anyone going short china?

I think it highly likely that the tariff battle will hit their market. I see our Feds were calling it a "test case" and they have a dozen other industries lined up wanting similar tariffs. And I see China already is reacting to it. Put em together and it sure sounds like a sell...

Do u trade below 1 billion cap stocks?

I've only been trading AMEX stocks the past couple years. The NYSE stuff moves like turtles and the Nasdaq seems pretty overpriced on most of what I see. I prefer lower volume, like under 5 mm per day, too, so that I get maximum movement percentage wise.

    My E-trade horror story

Its just that you were bitching about the commissions, and if you had a reasonably large account I forget the minimum, but its like $100k, its $10 for unlimited shares. With IB I'd get creamed just like I did with Tradestation and Fidelity any time i buy or sell over 1000 or 2000 shares. I...

China Calls U.S. Paper Duties `Unacceptable,' May Respond

Its sort of like watching a race car doing 175 coming up the straightaway after seeing its brakes on fire at the previous turn. The driver might have noticed the smell of brakes burning, or seen the smoke, but if he did, he didn't heed the warning signs. It hasn't wrecked yet, but you know its...

China Calls U.S. Paper Duties `Unacceptable,' May Respond

Well, you KNEW as desperate as what American manufacturers were left have gotten, that they had to be NEXT. Nothing made here can compete with the 30 cent an hour wages there, even without any subsidy. I'm amazed anyone is left still trying. Given that, do we even care anymore if GM...

China Calls U.S. Paper Duties `Unacceptable,' May Respond

It just is what it is at this point. Its a shame they are giving American manufacturers even a ray of hope so late in the game. I'm amazed at this point that there is any manufacturer still left standing to file a complaint. I'm sure it wasn't planned that way.

What monetary policy works for stagflation?

Imagine if they raised rates by 3% to kill the inflation and speculative bubbles. That would add $270 billion per year to the Federal deficit just for the increased interest expense. Additionally, since it would cause a recession, as more people were laidoff/fired/retired it would increase...

China Calls U.S. Paper Duties `Unacceptable,' May Respond

The big question is, given that this change opens the door for any American company to try to get tariffs instituted to protect them against any subsidized competition from China, will it affect the Chinese markets, and in turn ours?
