Compensation for traders at top firms?

I think they did admit that several times already. Problem is, traders don't want to understand that (obviously, look at the length of this thread). a prop firm is in business to make money, not to sustain losing traders. I think there are 3 reasons why traders are fascinated with this thread...

    Mechanical approach?

ArchAngel, I have a slightly different view about the out of sample. However, I like to make a run before the sample data because the forward testing may be close to the last data tested. regarding the multiple markets I fully agree with you. My remark was an advice for people starting with...

    Mechanical approach?

you forward test the same way you did back test. It is a bit like paper trading, but it's paper trading by the machine with wich you back tested (ideally). This is very important because it will show you that the back test was an utopia and had bugs  after the forward test you should go...

    IB Downtime

NYSE totally lost this morning. Then quotes back and routing down. that's the downtrend I was talking about yesterday. I wish for a reversal soon (in trading I don't wish :) ) tntneo

What's the best futures broker for eminis?

well, matrix did you contact IB funds helpdesk (a separate chat is available for that). if your account is approved and the mail was lost they will tell you to fund it. if you can login IB on the web site (account, not trading platform), and you don't see the exam and form buttons, but instead...

    Life after Proprietary Trading?

RSprengers, what firm will you work for ? Why not just use IB or other low cost EDAT ? (OK then you can only trade your money, I know, but it would cost you less.. unless you intend to trade Euro Stocks, then of course IB is no go). tntneo

    IB Downtime

it did not last too long, but sure is annoying and stressing when market is down like today. the bulletin took too long to popup regarding the NYSE problem. for the rest well, all brokers have problem at one point or another. What I don't like is that network traffic can't be that high today...

    What"s The Problem With Cybertrade

Same experience than Magna and Cyber. I did not write anything because Magna covers it perfectly. I always like the conditional orders with Cyber. Worked pretty well too. The stability of the platform is questionable (disconnects if you have too many hops on your internet connection to...

    IB NYSE Book

yep.. all the feedback so far is negative. on the other hand that's material for an edge sometimes (if everyone benefits there is no edge, right!?). :) seriously, probably it is useless, just some money for NYSE, but you can't be sure until you see for yourself. That's not that expensive to...

    IB NYSE Book

thanks def, well, since the month just began, I tried to subscribe to see for myself. it's like you said, after I downloaded and faxed to NYSE an agreement, IB should activate the subscription when they receive confirmation from NYSE. It does not mean NYSE book is useful, however the...

Starting a LLC (Hedge Fund Alternative)

don is right. there is no big deal here. also I agree about the misuse of hedge fund, to some extents. because there are many different strategies used by hedge funds and that also is misunderstood, as well as regulatory issues with funds with more than 30 partners (and funds which can...

Starting a LLC (Hedge Fund Alternative)

LLC is a good way to do it. You charge commmissions the way you want (invoice, the shares split or other). LLC is pass through, so the remainder of profits is added to each partner personal income. There are limitations to LLC in some states you should be careful with. Also, sometimes a...

    Financial liability trading emini futures

relax guys.. the thread is about financial liability. the answer was quite clear from IB's policy. everyone should be aware and be careful and yes, be prepared for the worst case scenario (whatever your plan are or cost or not.. have one) tntneo

Interactive Brokers min 100 shares NYSE

no, although you can in theory send orders for DIA or QQQ on island with less than 100 shares, IB will prevent you to do so... (even with Island routing). try it, it won't work : stop, limit or market order. tntneo

    IB NYSE Book

It seems the NYSE book data subscription is available at IB now. Well, at least you can ask for it, but I don't remember any announcement (well, in fact I received a mail from IB management 10 days ago that an announcement was coming within 2 weeks). I am not sure the open book is useful but...

Interactive Brokers min 100 shares NYSE

it's quite simple (and stated above in IB's statement) no limit orders for trades with less than 100 shares (you can use market though). IB made it very strict (I guess, fed up with NYSE) : no trades below 100 shares period.
