    September 11th delayed opening

certainly don't care. you should all read the threads after 9.11 and before the market reopened last year. people were asking the same questions. maybe with more of a patriotic feel to 'help' the market (in fact help themselves). the market has no emotion. don't project your emotions on it...

    Different time frames and trading

thanks cpo. aphex and inlong, from my perspective you are talking about the same time frame. To me a time frame is not the same thing as the bar size. but I know several do that, some with 3 levels (same chart but 3 different bar sizes).. I tried that at some point, but it does not have to...

    Different time frames and trading

I agree, looking at multiple time frames can cause trouble. I think it's because the active trend does not care much about higher time frames, so you should not. A current example : the 3 months trend (I don't know how to call it, saying medium term means little to most of us) is down. I...

    Baron how about this...??

I would never register to a forum asking my credit card info. What I encountered on the web are sites refusing free email accounts registration (yahoo, hotmail, etc..). That prevents a lot of abuse right there imo.

    The perfect moving average

that would be a weighted moving average, not a perfect moving average :) anyway, it will still have the major problem of any MA : lag. what will be your use of this MA ? PS : I will move later this thread to the TA Forum. seems more logical.

    Scalping e-minis

(thanks WarEagle) Aphex, A adjusted remark on my previous post. Just to make sure I expressed it properly. I am not saying emini scalping can't be done. I assume it can. and as I wrote, I even know precisely how to do it and did it and made quite some money. But, as mentioned, I can do it...

    The infamous "Blackbox" Theory

I suggest to continue in another thread. either the scalping ES thread or threads in the new strategy trading forum. this is only to avoid the bad rep the 'black box' name has.

    The infamous "Blackbox" Theory

that's right. (edit) well, both right. you don't need to be a super trader. but you do need to really understand what trading is about. System trading, ATS or strategy trading whatever you call it, is not a shortcut to success. it's the end result of a lot of work, learning experience...

    Scalping e-minis

I missed this one ! Great post Dottom. I agree so much, you are 100% right. There is a new forum on ET now on strategy dev. We'll see what happens (expect the same pattern though, but I hope not, since it is a dedicated forum). I don't do arbitrage and I do work on day/swing trading systems...

    Scalping e-minis

aphex, you are very eager and that's fine. trust me, it will pass :) it's really tough and so many things you will try will fail. maybe it's not so much what works, but what does not work. and that you learn only by trying, many, many, many times. this is a very interesting thread...

    The infamous "Blackbox" Theory

yes, usually a black box is a mechanical system one does not know the inside logic in details (general strategy may be public).

    The infamous "Blackbox" Theory

stick to subject or go to another forum. member's status is driven by number of posts, not what is written. but language abuse won't be accepted in this forum, I don't care who.

    The infamous "Blackbox" Theory

what gives blackbox systems a bad name are stupid ads in stocks * commodities and other magazines. purely automated trading is possible with consistent gains on ES and NQ (I find NQ more nerve wrecking, but that's just my opinion). but no one has to be so strict about it, it's possible to...

    Trading a portfolio of markets

Consider using the drawdown itself as a parameter. When drawdown increases near and past average value, reduce size (can be built in the system itself). Alternative I used before is reduction based on consecutive losers compared to average number and max number of consecutive losers. Full...

These people who are shorting ES tonight ...

A shorter way to say what I mean. Please remember this : Consider what DOES HAPPEN, not what MIGHT happen. In the long run, you'll be more profitable, at least when you get this. tntneo

These people who are shorting ES tonight ...

flaming is easy. easy to shoot a trader for a bad trade (simulated or not). so please people, calm down. it's only natural to try to predict markets. I still wait for someone who never did it or will never do it again. However, at least, let this be a reminder : don't try to predict the...
