"THIS." It's been a while since I've read a Best Of candidate, but this certainly has to be in the pool for Best of 2020 ET posts.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Any indicator such as this ?

"number of candlesticks"? No, none -- because the response would be dependent on the chosen time window. "ratio of total up|down movement" There are a couple. My favorite unbounded measure is the ADX/DMI+/DMI-; favorite bounded is Lane's Stochastic. Look around as to how T/As are grouped, and...

Navy SEAL Trader at Jefferies Helped Expose Hedge Fund Scandal

True -- of those who speak or write reprehensible things to which they do not wish any light shown. Hey! Let's substitute the word "dishonorable" with "reprehensible" in the sentence above, and see if it still works.... [To paraphrase...] People who say or write dishonorable things (to which...

    VIX as an indicator.

You would do well to ignore "Investopedia" as a source for trading or investment knowledge, as it is rife with inaccuracies, unsupported claims, and outright falsehoods. Taking just the quote above, "support" and "resistance" are terms intended to imbue collective market action with...

Is adjusting your stop for a free/ reduced loss worth it from a probability standpoint?

If you try to attach rules to that (and then backtest it -- even 'by eye'), you'll find the lie: a trigger to exit is not a trigger to enter in the opposite direction. In either direction, I "enter on a shout; exit on a whisper." • Are some profits missed? Yup! But my goal is not to maximize the...

Navy SEAL Trader at Jefferies Helped Expose Hedge Fund Scandal

You have not replied to Sig's observation re "mob" honor. There is absolutely NOTHING dishonorable about recording dishonorable behavior. Ask an honorable person.

Navy SEAL Trader at Jefferies Helped Expose Hedge Fund Scandal

Kamensky had to be a real idiot. A lucky idiot to have reached the professional plateau he did -- but too many times to the well, and he drew mud. Idiot. He didn't forget his fiduciary duty -- he *played* honest and got caught when he went real. (Sorry -- no sympathy here -- I was a pawn in...

    Yes, another one

"Rules-based (algorithmic) trading" is a fine substitute here. If you can code it, you can trade it. Much much wisdom in AbbotAle's post. Nicely done!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

    Technical anlysis book

If you truly want to "know" about deriving pattern-discerning traces from market data (an activity that has the unfortunate, and entirely inapt title of "technical analysis"), then • forget all of the known books entirely, • get yourself an accurate breakdown of the formulae for Appel's MACD and...

    IB TWS layout nightmare

I disagree about Java {languages being sized for the task is much more appropriate than it being "older" or "newer"}, but 110% agree with each and every other observation. "Right on."

    Advanced books on technical analysis?

While I kinda agree with both of your statements, I have to point out that 99% of traders have no idea what a MACD does, and 99% of traders who use the MACD have no idea of what a crossover indicates mathematically, nor what a numeric reading of MACD Signal of "15" or "-23" means. Instead of...

    Advanced books on technical analysis?

Scratch out the term "Technical Analysis" and try something that contains "algorithm". The math(s) will be exactly the same, but without the troublesome methodological baggage. :wtf::confused::banghead:

    How *you* read earnings announcements

Indeed! Oh, please, Scatman. Drink that second cup before you post. Mutatis mutandis and all that: If there were any sort of systematic relationship as you imply, then the market would be 100% workable any ol' day of the week, which it's not. A low-balled company would be bid up before...

IB introduces automated trading for dummies

Trading is an interesting and demanding business, but there is no way that rules-based, "robotic process" or algo-trading is "passive", bro. Ohmigod, no. If you *really* want to see if your balls hang low, set yourself up an algo, and then let it cook/simmer/percolate in a live market. Go away...

Can I learn swing Trading from the book "Trading for a living" by Dr. Alexander Elder?

You can learn a lot of great stuff from Elder -- one of the few "trading" books I recommend. But no, Elder alone will not do. Lots of screen time is a must.

TWS Chart Bug - Volume Bars

Look at the price candle. There is a phrase in trading regarding 'the hard right edge.' TWS makes the lead candle broader -- if you range (left and right) back and forth over time, having that first candle be broader informs you that it's truly the lead candle. No biggie.
