Anyone take/taking a job with Coastal Trade Securities?

Also, It allows customers to get around the pattern day trader rule. Basically if you make X amount of trades, you get flagged as a PDT, and must maintain 25K at all times in your brokerage account, if you were simply to open a retail online account (ameritrade, etc).. Joining an llc allows...

Anyone take/taking a job with Coastal Trade Securities?

Basically, they take your money and commingle the funds with others peopsl to create a large pool, which is used to give traders intraday leverage (margin)... I believe they keep it for a year, to avoid people just joining up and quitting (to reset an experiring series 7 license for example)...

    career trader

Since it is a top school, have him use alumni. If he isnt a quant or Phd, then alumni is his best option. Some programming knowledge would be good also. The trend these days is to hire traders that are familiar with algorithmic trading and have a math/technical background.

    Trading and Dating/social status

I get the impression most women want security (already been said in this thread.) Having said that: 1) Alot of their impression has to do with how you present yourself, and your occupation. If you come across ashamed or "hiding something" they will pick up on it. 2) Present a backup...

    Is it getting harder?

Lost cause. By his logic, 100% of traders are losers unless they buy the all time low and sell the all time high.

    Is it getting harder?

define "is it." If you are trading a strategy that larger players ignore, then they arent your competition. I did in my example. This isnt that complicated.... Now one can say, I made moneyBUT I could have made more if I held a bit longer, but that isnt what we are arguing... both can make...

    Is it getting harder?

Not necessarily true. If you are trading a strategy that trades relatively small size (due to scalability issues) then hedge funds arent your competition... Also, it ISNT a zero sum game... different time frames allow for winners on both sides of the trade. A swing trader can be unwinding...

    execution trader

Makes sense. I guess my point was that human traders are much less in demand than before since the role of trading software has been able to mimick much of what a human can do. You rarely see or hear of buy-side firms hiring pure execution traders these days compared to the days of old.

Anyone take/taking a job with Coastal Trade Securities?

Also curious about this. Not much info was given on their website.

    execution trader

Everything mentioned so far is accurate, depending on the style of investing. VWAP is often used, but as mentioned not used if speed is a priority. However execution trader's role is continuously beng diminished (has been for years now) due to buyside algorithmic trading and software...

    Entry Positions in Hedge Funds

3 types of people work as traders at hedgefunds: 1) Quant/Phd types from top schools who program and build algorithms. 2) MBA types, who probably played lacrosse, hockey, or football at Princeton, who are somewhat charismatic, who get lucky, and manage to land an interview, and probably...

    Price Action Journal V1.5

There was a link I saw awhile back that described statistics on market behavior. Going from memory, the market breaks out and trends around 33% of the time.. Which means most of the time its chop. Also remember that most traders lose money (b/c they are trading the sexy breakout, etc) So...

    Price Action Journal V1.5

I like the fact you have a plan, but you cant just trade such a plan on a short time frame. Each day has different activity (trend, chop, breakout)... My advice is you have to do exactly what you are doing (charting) on a longer timeframe.. then a slightly shorter one.. then the one you are...

Sam's Day Trading Log (With Charts)

Actually, I have been watching this hotlist, and mine looked similar. I added the "volume buzz" column, and sorted by that.. I found that most of the stocks that made it had a strong opening volume that triggered it (good) vs getting exhaustion volume spike at the end of a run.. What I...

Sam's Day Trading Log (With Charts)

I just installed it, as I was away for the morning. For a free service, it looks great. Looks alot like ninjatrader. However, One of my biggest issues (and that is why I asked) is stock selection. I have tried to look at stocks that are showing either rare price % gain/losses or unusual...

Sam's Day Trading Log (With Charts)

Sam, Not sure if you mentioned this, but I might have missed it. How do you go about selecting your stocks? Are you using setups on a daily chart, then waiting for a trade? Are you using some sort of filter or scanner? And how many are you usually watching each day?

Sam's Day Trading Log (With Charts)

Oh, Sam, one thing I heard (which seems to be true) is that after 4 legs down or up in a trend.. it has a tendency to chop or try to fight back a bit.. So if you find yourself finding a stock that has already made 3 (especially 4 ) moves already dont jump in at the next opportunity...

Sam's Day Trading Log (With Charts)

Sam, One thing you might think about it that I see you initiating some positions in what technically is the "slower" part of the day. Between 11:00-1:00 approximately, there is sometimes more headfakes/choppyness, and lack of conviction. It can be a dangerous time to enter a trade...

Sam's Day Trading Log (With Charts)

I agree with this with using shorter time frames as a tool. Maybe you mean something else, but I would use it for entry, based off a setup on a larger time frame.. In other words, you already have decided what you want to do based off a longer term chart setup, but am looking for the best...
