    Improving Trading Skills

Icarus, one can read Lewis Carroll over and over and those words become familiar, too. And make about as much sense. I, too, have a binder. Filled with the ill-defined concepts you mention, and many more. Consider the FTT. It looks simple. But like as not, what looks like an FTT isn't, and the...

    Improving Trading Skills

BSAM, perhaps it my own bizarre trading style, but more than simply predicting, I am absolutely certain that every trade I put on will be a winner. I don't think probabilities, statistics, expectation, any of that. Of course I am often shockingly wrong, but I just don't enter unless I am...

    Improving Trading Skills

PM nwbprop for the Cliff's Notes version. He started a Grob109 thread that is a classic. He banged away for months on just one trading tactic. It was embarrassing. A slo-mo train wreck. The only time trading was ever a spectator sport. It was vaudevillean in its grandeur and sweep. Or...

Sparkys especially are attracted to trading. It looks like it's amenable to all our fancy analyses. The linear systems fallacy.

    Improving Trading Skills

FuturesTrader71, to the best of my knowledge, Grob109 rephrases stock ideas from the post-Depression efflorescence of technical analysis. Essentially it is Shabacker with oddly different terminology. I see absolutely no understanding of the realities of internal market operation, to wit, price...

    Improving Trading Skills

"I don't do predictions, my focus is on holdng and reversing stuff." Excuse me, but every position taken constitutes a prediction. Otherwise you wouldn't take it.

Do you have a EDGE over the market?

Depends on the time of day and the volume. In the morning, with high volume, MMs let the crowd take the market where they will, and content themselves with the spread and making the crowd periodically slightly wrong by shaking them out of their good positions with retraces. During mid-day and in...

Do you have a EDGE over the market?

You're hopeless. My point is that you and everybody else influence the market to go against you JUST BY TAKING A POSITION. Bye.

    They're Back!

"I feel pretty, oh so pretty, I feel pretty, and witty, and gay!" Obviously looks are more important than acumen.

Do you have a EDGE over the market?

Get yourself a three sided coin. Markets go sideways. That'll skew your "stats" a little. Also observe how often the market retraces to just past where you (and everybody else) entered a position. Oh. Now we need a multi-sided die to cast to account for manipulation. Even better, get yourself a...

    Improving Trading Skills

I am encouraged by Grob109 that one can be a great trader without being able to spell. I am always getting into trouble trading UL when I meant to trade LU. TI and IT. You get the picture. But it always seems to work out OK. The unconscious, you know?

    Bad trading habits

No. PRESCRIBE. Tell an anorexic to gag herself every 15 minutes. A compulsive eater to drink a milkshake every half hour. Warring couples to spit and fight on a rigid schedule. Insomniacs to set their alarms to wake up every 10 minutes. They eventually get sick of it and quit. Or they are...

    Bad trading habits

Prescribe the symptom. Tell them to DO it 100 times. It works.

    Big bad day, coming soon.....

Oil through the roof? We haven't seen demand declines kick in yet. I carpooled and sat in gas lines in the Northeast during the embargo in '73. We'll put on more trains, fly more, use paper instead of plastic, gassify coal, use more "clean" coal, explore for more natural gas, install more...

    Big bad day, coming soon.....

Alas, I fear that gold must fall further relative to the dollar. Almost time to buy more. Using dollars, of course. Now oil is a different matter. It is capped eventually at about $70. Most folks forget that at that price we can GROW oil. We are already recycling used motor oil into a diesel...

    Big bad day, coming soon.....

Yeah. I measure everything in oil and in gold. Even oil and gold. Sometimes is enlightening, sometimes not.

    Big bad day, coming soon.....

I just invented that yesterday because I couldn't figure out why sometimes indices respond with oil and sometimes opposite to it. So it has absolutely no merit. But it sounds good and makes a pretty chart.

    Big bad day, coming soon.....

I watch the ratio of index price to oil, for asset balance, and the product of index price and oil, for the presumed reciprocal relationship. When both are up, the index is overpriced.

    Big bad day, coming soon.....

Also, the indices are overpriced relative to the new international currency, oil.
