    Is Scaling Out a Fallacy?

I have an algorithm that I use to decide how to scale out and how to scale in based upon the character of the particular market. Of course the idea is to catch more of the move - my current system does better than a linear scale out/in and that was the goal. If you could perfectly (or near...

when will next M$ OS be available?

Running an IT organization is all about perception and budgeting. Once you are entrenced nobody will give you money to switch out ..except small systems, one at a time and for many IT directors /CIO's they have the $soft salespeople in the CEO's or directors or managing directors ear and thus...

    High-performance trading architecture.

All too common in most IT organizations.... The federal government IT organizations are some of the worst offenders by the way .... I see a lot less of this in the larger financial organizations which are tending to standardize their designs and move away from building and more towards...

    High-performance trading architecture.

Why would you ? The banks requirements were hopefully constructed with regards to the present and future volumes of transactions they need to support, and the points at which the design becomes invalid.

    High-performance trading architecture.

Grad school was physics: computational theoretical and experimental. Started more than one software development consulting company and worked for a couple of successful IPO's. I have always worked in the financial markets in one form or another: either for the exchanges or for other financial...

when will next M$ OS be available?

This is a little harsh .... You can do a lot with $soft tools quickly, without having to know a great deal. Of course the trade off is being welded to $soft and to being at their mercy with respect to fixing code and raising prices/ costs. There are a number of reasons that companies stick...

    High-performance trading architecture.

Well there are books on this ... they just dont explicitely tell you that you can use the ideas to build a trading system, and if they do, only provide toy examples. The idea of using an asynchronous/synchronous message delivery mechanism is nothing new. There are a number of implementation...

    High-performance trading architecture.

..Huh ? Messaging brokers in one form or another have been implemented by many people/teams at various financial insitutions. I have run across several that were ultimately discarded because the designers did not actually complete their due diligence on the designs and assumed infinite...

    High-performance trading architecture.

I designed and built them for > 1B funds. Like the other poster said, smaller funds dont need that level of detail. We use my designs in our proprietary systems - we own the trading systems designs. Few people have this option.

    3 monitors HELP!!!

All of our systems use ATI cards, including our multi-monitor, multi card Linux trading stations. The few $soft stations left also use ATI cards. No problems.

when will next M$ OS be available?

We started to move off of $soft about the time of the XP launch: To us it was quite clear that a future of relying on $soft represented an unacceptable risk to the business. A few years later we see our assement completely validated and our cost structure improved by several orders of...

    Did you get your MBA?

Well, lets see, I didn't get an MBA but I helped my wife get hers - basically tutoring her through several classes. Her MBA was from a good school and was useful IMO. The work was not hard however - I did the stuff in my sleep even in the most difficult quant classes. Oh Yeah, I basically...

    advice on automated trading tools

Actually your rate is about half what a qualifed person would get to build something from the ground up..... However..... There is very little demand/need anymore to create customized rule engines from scratch. The number of off the shelf commercial products, and open-source products that...

    Housing Rolling Along 2

Real-estate investments should be managed like any investment portfolio - there is an entry and an exit and each position has an investment goal - like your first house that you still own and will presumably let others pay off for you through rent. I beleive that some of the areas you mention...

when will next M$ OS be available?

Cant prove anything ... for us Linux and its associated application stack is much cheaper to administer and maintain - licenses are free - and the software is at least of equal quality and by our measure, is of higher quality. Like Steve Balmer once said when he raised prices "...some...
