How much out of sample testing is enough?

This equity curve is showing a change in the security's "character", which is an early warning sign to be cautious. Here, the equity curve was somewhat predictable until around trade 180, when it starts to zigzag quite a bit more than before. While it doesn't mean that you should stop trading...

How much out of sample testing is enough?

I often use equity charts to eyeball and get a feel for how a system/equity behaved during the testing period and then will keep an eye afterward to see if something changes. If the equity chart looks very different from the testing phase, then it's a warning that *something* has changed. For...

    Oil/Energy sector traders

Everybody and their brother (fools) is now trying to trade oil/oil stocks. The time to have done that was 1-2 years ago. Look at the charts. Top chart is current oil stocks on 15 min chart. Bottom chart is same stocks 2 years ago. A LOT easier! And the spreads were narrower too. This pretty much...

    Struggling With Mind Set

Sounds to me like whatever "plan" you have, has a slight edge in the 1st hour of trading but beyond that, you're toast. So...unless you plan on holding positions for the next day, don't trade after 10:30 or 11:00 am?

    question about futures rolling over

I don't believe futures premiums are a function of volatility. They're derived from current interest rates and the dividends paid on the underlying index, so the premium would be smaller than now but decrease at a steady pace.

Why do so many even try....

I kind of agree with you on some things...the public is definetely in "love" with a lot of public corporations. There needs to be a *really* strong washout for this bullshit dead environment to come alive again.

Nothing wrong with that. Your other post made it sound as though you're a successful trader who's been at this for years. Let's at least be truthful.

    Problem with Comcast cable internet

Thanks for your help. Comcast doesn't appear to be dragging their feet yet (they've been out and replaced the modem, checked the line, etc). But they DO admit that there's been some technical issues in Central and No. California and they are doing some repair work. I was asked to keep them...
