If someone really has the edge, I can see that he/she would want to get more capital than he/she can get on his own. But if someone has seven figure of capital, a 30% to 50% return would make a good living. They probably won't need the backing of a prop firm.

If some prop traders become successful and accumulated their own trade capital, they may want to leave the prop firm and trade on their own. Of course they will have do own risk management. But so much freedom and get keep all the profit.
