Yet Another IB SIPC Sweep Question ...

Yes this is quite an interesting quote. He says in part: "Unlike spot forex trading elsewhere, transactions conducted through IB are not executed in lots or contracts (which are not SIPC protected) but rather in any whole currency unit as specified by the customer." So he is saying that...

Yet Another IB SIPC Sweep Question ...

Yes, ideally I would suggest buying a few stocks in the foreign currencies you trade. IB offers access to quite a few foreign stock exchanges where stocks trade in currencies other than USD.

Yet Another IB SIPC Sweep Question ...

The way IB looks at it, forex executions just lead to credit and debit cash balances in various currencies. The nature of these as forex trades in progress is not preserved - the resulting balances are just the same as, and mixed in with, credits and debits in various currencies that originate...

Arbitration vs broker: if a mediator should be selected on the panel...

I think you have to try to evaluate how the facts of your case will go over with different potential panel members.

IB and Etrade giving informations to accountants/auditors ??

Sure they're just saying that if there is some special provision of law that requires audits of a particular unusual type of small business, for example a bank or a trust company, then they are not relieved of such a requirement. But an ordinary small corporation does not have to be audited...

IB and Etrade giving informations to accountants/auditors ??

http://www.ird.gov.hk/eng/pdf/e51notes.pdf says that an audit is not required if yours is a small corporation with gross income under 2,000,000 HKD. Are you over that? Even if an audit is required, I doubt that an itemization of every trade is required. I would think that they should...

    long USDHKD with IB

Yes that is known as "interest rate parity" and always holds.

The bid ask spread on RF is down to 2 (sometimes 3) pips right now as we are in prime business hours in Europe.

    long USDHKD with IB

You are not missing a more active contract. But looking at the slightly wider bid ask spread on RF, it is still a tiny fraction of what you would give up in carrying costs for a cash forex position if you held the position for a long time. The future is a derivative of the spot (actually...

Health Insurance - I need to change from Individual to Group Health Insurance

Try calling around and find some other doctors who will be more creative with diagnoses and procedure codes to cover the testing you want done. I think it might be solvable this way. (deleting reference to IEEE because I do not think they have such policies any more). Otherwise try a...

    TWS on 64 bit Win7

Isn't Java supposed to be hardware and platform independent so that there is no such thing as a 32 bit or 64 bit Java application? In other words, any properly written Java application should run in either environment (32 bit or 64 bit) without change.

    long USDHKD with IB

With the Oanda drop-down set to balances, I see what you mean. But if you set it to Trades, it makes more sense. These are not the same thing at Oanda as they are at IB. I think it just reflects their internal demand and supply for various currencies at Oanda. Everything is dynamic and...

    IB Futures Commissions & Fees

I like CTS T4 but there are things it does not have such as futures options spreads.

    long USDHKD with IB

I do not have an account with Oanda but they have a swap rate calculator on their pages and yes they are quite a bit more viable for carry trades than IB according to the cases I have tested. Some people do use them for carry trades. They also have more exotic currencies such as non-deliverable...

    long USDHKD with IB

The basic problem is that IB does not treat a forex transaction as such. Instead, they treat it as borrowing in one currency and lending in another, as if the two sides were totally unrelated. This means that they are not able to quote competitive swap rates on specific pairs. This...

    long USDHKD with IB

Oh you are right I was mixing it up - it would only be one side - but still too high. They theoretically pay interest on the credit balance side but the rate is zero for USD. What I was thinking of is that for currency pairs where you are earning interest on the credit side, they nick...

    long USDHKD with IB

I was assuming a leveraged trade, hence 2 sides. Actually if you are just converting cash, then there is no carry cost I believe. Futures do have much lower carrying cost than IB's forex interest fees where they exist, but there are no HKD futures. I think the reason that they do not exist...

    long USDHKD with IB

The problem is IB's expensive markups on both sides (USD and HKD) (adding 1.5% percent per year on each side). As far as I can see these add-on percents are very high and typical of retail brokers. They would not normally be charged to institutional forex clients, I think. I like IB...

    IB Futures Commissions & Fees

IB commissions are $0.85 plus free comprehensive platform. Many other brokers seem to be $0.50 commissions plus about $0.50 platform fee for a total of about $1.00. So IB is cheaper overall if you need a comprehensive platform, from my point of view. What do you think?
