That's very interesting about the Bloomberg forum being good.
Is there any way to access it other than through a full Bloomberg subscription? For example, is it available in any University libraries?
I think the need is particularly there for an in-depth options discussion site.
There are definitely some excellent threads and posters on options here on ET, some of whom go to a lot of trouble to post trade logs and contribute to discussions, but whole areas of options still seem to get...
EliteTrader is great but I would like to see some other sites too. I cannot find much anything else beyond Big Mike Trading and Trade2Win.
Since EliteTrader has informal chat well covered (and more of course), I would like to see a new site with more in-depth serious discussions. Personally...
Once an order gets to Globex, it does not matter how it got there.
Of course some firms offer their own algorithms etc. for filling large orders that others do not - for example, monitoring the market and sending them to Globex a little at a time.
Also, margins differ, as do order...
Ah ok I forgot that some accounts were held. One reason (among others) given was where the IRS failed to confirm a match between taxpayer name and taxpayer id. It could just be a typo somewhere or something like that.
I agree that their hotline is poor service. All you can do is listen to...
Yeah they were forced to admit it after completely independent sources revealed publicly that it had been injected into on the Council for Foreign Relations web site.
...but I agree that some packages such as TradeAnalytics are showing their age in a high-frequency word. They may eventually be replaced by other tools for high-frequency rather than enhanced......
Well, one recent addition is the high-frequency package:
http://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/highfrequency/index.html
http://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/highfrequency/vignettes/highfrequency.pdf
Of course xts and data.table have been enhanced too to support higher-frequency data...
Actually I think R may by now be one of the best and most popular tools for analyzing large quantities of intra-day data, *provided* you use vector operations and the newer packages that support them. These then run at the speed of C (since these packages are written in C).
The main tools to...
Here is another interesting possibility:
OpenGamma
http://www.opengamma.com/
I am not sure yet whether this is suitable for use without commercial components but am looking into it.
It support Excel or R. Personally I would use R.
It remains to be seen how the Court would/will decide.
Courts are courts of equity as well as of law.
If we can find irregularities in the bookkeeping of both sets of accounts, then the division of funds between them may be up for argument.
Well after you already have the loss, the practical issue at hand is not about believing industry drivel etc. at that point. It is about trying to make the best case you can to recover as much as possible as you can in the circumstances. I am going to have to study the law closely myself.
I...
Did you receive a letter from Vision? If not, maybe your address has changed or the letter just got lost. Did you send them the documentation they asked for?
All accounts got 30% transferred to Vision and it is sitting there waiting for you to file your drivers license etc. and then they will...
The contango will just be reflected in the option price so I do not think it has any major implication for options.
The underlying future month will be higher than the current month quote, and the option will just be quoted against the future month. Everything will be in terms of the price...
Yes I got the 30% from Vision. I am hoping for a lot more than 30% eventually though.
Are they claiming that you have not submitted enough documentation? I know that some people had that problem with them.
Also did you complete the proof of loss form on pfgchapter7.com? That is not...
I received the following unsolicited offer today (at bottom of this post) for my PFG claim. I changed the name of the sender to XXX.
I am not interested in the offer as such, and will not take it (I am in in no rush), but am interested in the expectations for recovery implied in it.
The...
The site http://www.agrimoney.com/ has news summaries of all major reports, including many research reports from trading firms, that may be adequate for most casual purposes.
I believe TDAmeritrade / Think or Swim has some such feature with TD Bank USA.
However no approach, including this one, is foolproof. (They could start delaying or faking the sweeps or whatever although I have no concerns about that with TDA since it is owned by TD Bank).
Also unlimited...
Yes but one (realized) becomes the other (historical) with the passage of time, does it not?
Or to put it another way, back data on realized volatility is called historical volatility.
