    Traders Who Like Music

I read somewhere that the Billboard charts were racially integrated - until the Beatles came along and gave the world "white" rock and roll. No idea if it's true, have never checked, because if it isn't, it should be. :)

Velvet Underground. Sonic Youth. Kraftwerk. New Order. Pre-Bitches Brew Miles Davis. Pre-Windows 95 Rolling Stones. Lots of good stuff out there.

    Because you want them to.

Which President of the United States increased the debt the most since 1980?

You offer *that* after complaining about non-inflation-adjusted figures? Good grief.

Which President of the United States increased the debt the most since 1980?

It also does the same for the previous administration. And the administration before that. And the administration before that. And the administration before that. And the administration before that. Same standard for everyone, yet a distinct pattern emerges none the less.

Obama to pay down 20K of your principal.

That is insane. Nobody will lend out that far without a gov't (ie taxpayer) backstop. What you are asking for is fundamentally the same as knocking $ off the owed-amount.

Which President of the United States increased the debt the most since 1980?

%increase automatically accounts for virtually all inflation effects.

Obama to pay down 20K of your principal.

The entire mortgage market has been taxpayer-backed since they introduced the GI Bill (a bit before, even). What exactly do people expect to happen? A "normal" mortgage is a 5-7 years, 50% down, interest only balloon. That would absolutely collapse housing prices. I can't think of a single...

Buffett’s Railroad Among Winners From Keystone Denial

I was under the impression there is a cluster of Midwest refineries that we're strongly opposed to the pipeline, for obvious reasons. It always comes down to money...

    What I Like About Communism

Dude...lol...I don't know who you are in real life, but if we're ever in the same place at the same time, I hope you let me buy you a drink. Or eight.

    Global Oil Pricing

Was it Keynes who made a comment about basing his investment decisions by fading the headlines he'd read in the morning paper while sipping coffee in bed? He died a wealthy philanthropist, might be something to it... Hell, I don't know nothing, either, OT. Just a small fish trying to avoid...

    Global Oil Pricing

I don't believe we can get a stable price, not for some time.

    Global Oil Pricing

I think we may be saying two sides of the same coin...? IMO, the price today can't be kept stable in nominal terms in any currency without a restrictive monetary policy (ie, willful contraction). This is the converse of, say, 50 years ago, when the price could only stay (more or less) stable...

    Global Oil Pricing

I'm not really getting your point, OT...? IMO, oil is the true global reserve currency. When times are "good", the USD has been a decent enough proxy. But times have changed, and the cost of oil in USD (and pretty much any other currency) should be expected to be all over the place, mostly...

    Global Oil Pricing

The economic activity on the "consuming" side of the oil trade is at least 2 orders of magnitude larger than the economic activity on the "speculating" side. If all the speculative money on the planet were to push one way on oil, it wouldn't make a damn bit of difference.
